Anne Hathaway will don the catsuit for 'The Dark Knight Rises' (Tom Hardy as Bane)
Washington Post ^ | 1/19/2011

Every key move of Christopher Nolan's newest Batman project has stirred speculation and scrutiny. So Comic Riffs eagerly awaits "fanboy" reaction to this fresh news: Anne Hathaway has now been cast as Selina Kyle -- Catwoman's alter ego -- for Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," Warner Bros. Pictures has just announced today. . "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," Nolan said in a statement. The studio also announced that Tom Hardy has been cast to play Bane. Said Nolan: "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman's most formidable enemies." Christian Bale, of course, will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Nolan, who wrote the story with David Goyer, will also direct and produce "The Dark Knight Rises," which is scheduled for release July 20, 2012. As our sister blog Celebritology noted earlier today, Hathaway also reportedly has been cast to play Kurt's lesbian aunt on "Glee." Michelle Pfeiffer notably played a big-screen Selina Kyle in Tim Burton's 1992 "Batman Returns." In 2004, Halle Berry donned the feline leather as Patience Philips in the disappointing "Catwoman."

That’d get a rise out of any Dark Knight.

Every female part in Nolan’s Batman movies has been a very weak link (Katie Holmes, Maggie Gyllenhall, blah). Let’s hope this is different. Christian Bale rocks though!

Julie Newmar remains unchallenged.

That is, quite possibly, the worst picture of Anne Hathaway ever taken.

Eartha Kitt pretty much defined the role on screen (imho).

This is a poor choice for Batwoman.

>>Julie Newmar remains unchallenged.<<

Sorry, Eartha Kitt was the most cat-like Catwoman.

I suspect we have a Ginger/MaryAnne situation here...

:)

One of the few things I will watch from Hollywood because it is mainly Brits - no more. Bale based his lib step mom Gloria Steinem, Oldman may not be a Repub but he bashed the Dems based on the agenda movie he was hookwinked into, Michael Caine is a conservative.

True, that. Kitt was the Cat!

Interesting that the old TV show had the best Catwomen.

The girl form the TV show Chuck might do a good job, but I assume they are going for “start power” with Hathaway.

But c’mon, she is going to be a lousy catwoman.

fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story

Will this be the last of the Batman films for the time being?

Hathaway is a decent actress and cute, but she doesn’t strike me as a Catwoman.

This, on the other hand, is not:

She is supposed to play catwomen? From her IMDB bio
Has stated that she would only appear nude/topless in a film if she felt it would add significance to it. She appeared topless for the first time in Havoc (2005) and then in the same year in Brokeback Mountain (2005).

Julie Newmar created instant wood. I have watched some scenes on youtube and remember the show as a kid.

I am amazed that they were able to get Julie Newmar’s stuff past the censors let alone on afternoon TV for kids.
