There were several vendors there with Mosin-Nagants (and wildly varying prices). I got this one, the accessory kit, and 180 rounds of ammo for $175. As a bonus, it is *very* clean, and appears to have had all of the cosmoline removed already (although I'll be double checking that). There's a chip out of the stock, but I'm a woodworker, and can easily fix that. Bore looks ok, as well.
The 180 rounds of ammo were the remains of a can of 440 that he had opened and had been selling piecemeal.
All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase- I've been in the market for one of these since seeing discussed so much on here, and while the price wasn't great, it was still pretty reasonable. I am no perfectly equipped to take care of any wild pigs I encounter :)

Mosins are fun to shoot. The recoil is a heavy hard push so you may want to invest in a $20 Walmart slip on recoil pad.
Also remember, that’s corrosive ammo. Bring a bottle of Windex with you and hose down the bore and breech face when you’re done.
Oh, and last winter we(NJ gun forums group) shot the mosins, PSLs etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IxdDQSCQ24 Bit of a language warning at the end.
Have fun!

I bought mine about seven years ago from Big 5 for about $79. It’s big, heavy, reasonable accurate and a blast to shoot with cheap ammo. It would be good for hunting venues, but I’ve never hunted with mine.

Congratulations! I did the same thing New Years Day. The gunsmith should be calling any day to tell me to pick it up. He is giving it a good safety check and cleaning (mine was loaded with cosmoline).
Mine is a 1942 91/30. Got the rifle, pouches, sling, oil can, bayonet. With tax and background check, I was out the door for $135.00.
Come back and give us a report after you get to the range with it! Again, congrats!

I used to ALWAYS go to gun shows with Mr. Ditter. Then they stopped having a section of antiques and collectibles, my interest dropped off.

oh. nevermind.

You can get a surplus tin of 440 rounds for under $100 if you look around. It was worth the money if you got one with the cosmoline already removed.

Consider well before you modify anything. Your rifle may have been at Stalingrad.

Ah, good for you! Your wife will definitely enjoy shooting the old Babushka! The Russians have a certain allure. They have a tendency to be magnetic as well. My 91/30 somehow attracted a couple of M44s and a Finnish M38.
I guarantee that you will find cosmoline when you take the stock off. BTW, the original stock finish is shellac. Rockler Garnet Red is a perfect match, for touching up after your woodworking job.

Be sure to have a safety check done by a gunsmith before you shoot it. A headspace check is a must. Happy shooting comrade !

They are sturdy-good guns.
The brass cased Yugo that was going around a while back was really good ammo. Hungarian and Czech ammo as well as Russian is good too. I’d try a little of each to see what the gun liked before I started stocking up though.
You know, at these prices, you will have a closet full of ammo and another rifle or 2 soon.
