Can scientists become "Deadly Ninjas of Science Communication"? That was proposed by Chris Mooney, author of The Republican War Against Science," and a member of the board of directors of the American Geophysical Union. Mooney advocated this idea in a presentation at the Union's December 13-17 fall meeting in San Francisco.

Mooney is concerned that global warming skeptics are getting the upper hand in the ongoing debate....

I have seen other posters chastised for posting things as News, so, quite frankly, I was not sure where to place the article.

Organizing global warming agitprop by the left is definitely news. This isn't science. It's politics, schemes to raise taxes, make money and wreck the economy with expensive energy.

To understand the attitude of these scientists read Thomas Kuhn's "History of Scientific Discovery." Scientists do not try to falsify their paradigm. Instead they spend their careers reinforcing what they were taught. When a new theory is offered they always oppose it until forced to change by facts they cannot ignore. Today there is no absolute proof global warming is wrong and the state still pays them to say it is happening. The farce will continue.

Oh, PS: Thanks for reminding me--I want to look up the record temps for this date. On the local news this morning, the weatherman was standing in front of the "record cold" temperature and year, so that all you could see was the "record warm" temp of 65 degrees for this date.

I am quite sure that Fox News's Steve Doocy would never block part of his weather map.

We should charge them with fraud. Michael Mann should be in jail for fraud. These so-called "scientist" have an agenda to get more grants with lies and fabricated data. They should all be in jail. The universities that gave these liars a degee should rescind those degrees for scientist that have falseified the readings.

You're very close, twistedsis. It'll be a snowy day in Hades before government, which is all but entirely in the hands of people who understand "global warming" plays into government hands, will charge the fraudsters with fraud.

Between now and then, I'd like to propose we pull their free money plug. Defund them. Take back our tax dollars. Make them play with their own money instead of ours.

There are plenty of large, rich Marxist foundations, of course, so they'll still be able to broadcast their ludicrous pseudo-scientific lies, but it would do America a world of good to see them deprived of the funding we provide. Could the Republicans do that? Yes. Will they? We'll see, won't we?

I don't think we have to ascribe dishonest motives (although this may be the case for a few) to understand their behavior. I think there are 3 things that are sufficient:

a) Modeling of climate is perhaps the most vexing modeling situation ever attempted.
i. For an ideal modeling, the instantaneous initial conditions of pressure, temperature, velocity, moisture content, cloud distribution, particulate distribution, solar radiation, cosmic rays, magnetic field, moon and planetary tidal forces, ocean state, etc are needed. That can't be done beyond crude levels of fidelity that means the computer can't get started on the right foot.
ii. All the physical processes need to be understood and represented, unless determined objectively to be inconsequential. (Can anyone say clouds? or cosmic ray cloud seeding?)

b) Many "climatologists" came from narrow disciplines and latched onto this work when the opportunity arose when the scare was generated by the Maurice Strongs of the world who made this into a (almost) successful propaganda campaign for their ideological agenda.

c) The reason E. Goldstein mentions in regards to not trying to falsify their paradigm. (I suspect many were predispositioned by support of environmental causes and didn't even realize the puppet masters like Strong were at play.)

And what is it with the Palin picture? Isn't this a group of professionals?

DOI requests $171 million (an increase of 26.0 percent) for its Climate Change Adaptation initiative, which seeks to identify areas and species most vulnerable to climate change and implement coping strategies. Of this, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) would receive $77.9 million for climate science (an increase of 15.5 percent)

EPA requests $169 million to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (an increase of 1 percent). Of this, $43.5 million is new funding for regulatory efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the Clean Air Act. EPA requests $22 million for its Global Change Research Program, which assesses the impacts of global change on air and water quality, ecosystems, human health, and socioeconomic systems in the United States with a primary goal of promoting adaptation efforts.

I don't even understand what this means. How does giving the EPA $169 million reduce emissions? Also, does it really cost $43.5 million a year (more) to regulate greenhouse gases? Lastly, the USDA: USDA requests $159 million for climate change research, an increase of 42.0 percent

A 42% increase in climate change research? $159 million spent in a single year, by the USDA? Crop yields are up! CO2 helps crops! Imagine spending $159 million in 2011 to research things that actually help people. wow, thats a lot of money..doesnt even count soros funded nonsense, ipcc crap etc. no wonder they want to keep the lie alive. thats a ... All the climate change nonsense aside, the advice on propaganda given by Mr. Mooney is completely wrong. If they want to be successful propagandists, they need to follow Hitler's example and just lie. If you don't have truth on your side, a lie works just as well if you use it properly. Lie big and keep repeating it. The more outrageous the lie the better. Hitler explained the effect very well. The majority of people who hear you will fall into three types, the weak, the unsure and the skeptics. The weak will believe because you are strong, the skeptics will know you are lying but fear you and be afraid to challenge your lie, the unsure will wonder, "how could he say such an outrageous thing if it wasn't true?", and give you the benefit of the doubt. The only people who will oppose you are the strong, and you beat them down with personal attacks.

The global warming scam is failing for this reason. The real scientists don't want to lie, and the liars leading the charge aren't real scientists and can be countered by real evidence. I recommended shorting global warming futures.
