To: Alas Babylon!

I love the SEC. But I don’t understand those Alabama teams. Can’t they figure out what they’re going to call themselves? Is Auburn a war eagle or a tiger? Alabama is a red wave with a gray elephant for the mascot. Make up your minds!

Even though I have to say “God love a duck”, I also have to say SEC RULES!

Auburn is a Tiger, A War Eagle is the Mascot.

Having a mascot that's different than your team name is much, much, much more common than that.

Miami Hurricanes have an Ibis as a mascot. The Georgia Tech Yellowjackets have the Rambling Wreck, a Model T Ford. Harvard has the Johns and the Crimson. Yale the Eli and the Bulldogs. Tennessee, the Volunteers and a hound dog.

At the beginning of the Bowl Season, an ESPN columnist listed each bowl game and who would win based on mascots. A third or more of the teams had a mascot that was different than the team name.
