I think that's because Google Android 3.0 (code named Honeycomb), which is the first version of the OS designed specifically to take advantage of tablet computer hardware, is still at least 3-4 months away from public release.
If what we've seen from the Motorola Xoom is indicative of what an up-to-date Android-based tablet can do, we will finally have a true, serious iPad competitor.
