Veteran ESPN broadcaster Ron Franklin was pulled from the air before Saturday's Fiesta Bowl after he called ESPN sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards "sweetcakes" during an off-air spat, Sports By Brooks reported Sunday.
Franklin and Edwards were scheduled to work together for Friday's Chik-fil-A Bowl and the incident occurred in a pre-game production meeting also attended by ESPN announcers Ed Cunningham and Rod Gilmore.
When the conversation turned to the subject of Gilmore's wife Marie being elected mayor of Alameda, Calif., Edwards tried to join in but was shut down by Franklin, according to the report.
Why dont you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes, Franklin told her.
Dont call me sweetcakes, I dont like being talked to like that, Edwards responded.
Franklin then said, OK then, a**hole.

ESPN?
Good grief, we’re talkin’ a place for those too dumb for even the MSM collection O’clowns.
Who gives a smelly Obama what anyone there says?
DEMOCRATS!!.. (Eddie Murphy laugh)...
Given a choice I prefer chicks trying to act like they "even care"...
"Don't ask, Don't tell" football is a bit much for me..
Is being a jerk a suspendible offense? I could see the same conversation happening at my work and no one complaining at all. People need thicker skin and shorter memories.
While I absolutely agree with you regarding the women on the sidelines (quota), most of the males are blithering idiots too. My favorite lines are: “a play you have to make”, “the team with the most points will win this one”, he is one fine specimen”, “that is a pure athlete”...blah blah blah I could repeat idiotic lines too, or read facts fed to me by a computer handout. Very few of the current commentators have enough functioning brain cells
“Edwards reported Franklin’s comments to ESPN management, who attempted to pull him from the Chik-fil-A Bowl broadcast, but it was too late to find a replacement.”
Remember when the females claimed that they wanted no special treatment. Now they run to rat out colleagues when they say something they dont like and the guy gets canned. Thanks feminazis.
So do I........I just can’t stand women trying to men, neither can I take men trying to be women!
They blather, blather on & on without saying anything except what they like to hear them selves say!!!!
Leave this discussion up to me, honeybunch.
That's just wrong.
Just by purely reading this report, I have a suspicion there’s much more to this story.
I agree with you and I’m a chick. :)
As does some of the male inane banter too.
Your workplace must be rather different from mine then, because, where I work, calling a colleague (in a non-humorous way) an "asshole" would likely prompt much more than a "complaint," regardless of the sexes involved in the exchange.
ROFLMAO!
Or munchiebuns, or pillow cakes, or......
“Sugart*ts” will get you slapped every single time. Haha.
SnakeDoc
YUM!
Surely you jest! Laz would hit a brickwall, a nail, a baseball..............
Yet ESPN’s Greenberg can make a racist comment, nothing happens and he continues to be employed.
These threads crack me up.
I wonder how many of my co-genderists would tolerate someone speaking to their wife/mother/daughter this way. But in this context, it’s her issue, she brought it on herself (’how’ she did that is not explained in the story, but because she’s a chick on the sideline of a male only sport, clearly she’s at fault).
I note also that no one on the thread (or any threads like it) call for the elimination of the oh so babe-alicious cheerleaders. But they know their place - shake their feminine attributes for the enjoyment of us watching on TV - but with the sound down so we don’t have to listen to the wimmen reporters.
And really? Some would rather view the sweating, steam rising off the head of a 350 pound interior lineman than listen to/look at an attractive female talk about something perhaps only tangentially related to the game?
funny times.
