Drawing on his experiences picking up roadkill, feeding swine, and castrating a lamb with his teeth, Mike Rowe, host of Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs, discusses how modern American culture...
“At present, my degree apparently makes me overqualified for everything but unemployment, yet my bills dont care how I earn what pays them.”
I feel your pain. Hang in there.
I’m the same, except I’ve been fortunate not to have to go on unemployment.
“But a person who is willing to self-educate while theyre working is logically a better hiring risk to an employer.”
Yes and no. It totally depends on the employer. Some will look at just the degree. Some will look at no degree and reject you.
I’ve been on both sides of this equation. I personally see how being willing to self-educate is helpful once you’ve got your foot in the door. However, I don’t think it helps very much these days in getting employers to take a chance on you.
Thanks, that was good.
You're right, you're wrong......LOL!
Rowe is awesome
You got that right, Rosey! Wowwwza!
Regards,
Mike is doing a pretty fair job selling FORDs, too.
Thanks for the link, very interesting guy!
He strikes me as being kind of a smug elitist type. I dont know... I could be wrong.

You are wrong and wildly so.
I worked with him years ago when his daytime job was selling computer services for the org I was with at the time. He was then also hosting a real estate sales show on Sunday mornings.
A nicer, more down to earth guy you would have a hard time finding.
Love that show.
I have done many of those same jobs.
Wow. Thanks for the post.
“He was then also hosting a real estate sales show on Sunday mornings.”
I’ve heard that show, and not very long ago. I remember he’s said he sang with the Baltimore Opera. He’s certainly not averse to work.

I think it’s called Your New House or something like that.
I know we are not supposed to tout the work ethic of media folks, but between Mike and another friend, from what I can tell, these guys bust ass. They play hard as well.
I love the story of a musician friend, whose band would play before 10s of thousands in Europe, and then would come home to dishwash for minimum wage at a restaurant when he wasn’t gigging - I, on the other hand, have a great daytime gig, and my band plays before 10s here in Baltimore :-)
The life is not nearly as glamorous for the up and coming as it might seem. No thanks. I like to eat. Oh, and raise a family.
I agree and im a dude
I think hes a good guy, this is a pretty cool thing to do

Funny video, though.
