Ah, the secret recipe. I bet it’s good.

My youngest son has been cooking for us while my eye mends. He's gotten into purchasing frozen boneless chicken family packs at COSTCO.

There's most of a chicken in each "blister" so you can cut off one, thaw it, and have it ready to cook in 10 minutes.

What he does is thaw it, cut it into little "nuggets" and then rolls them in a gluten free pancake mix.

Most of the breading falls off unless you dip the chicken in milk first, but it cooks up quickly in Promise ~ a special high omega oil that makes the world taste vaguely of frenchfried shrimp.

His chicken nuggets are so good even he's given up the imitation product sold at McDonalds. He finally figured out that it's mostly breading. His are mostly chicken!

That's just AMAZING, as the last time that I had an OBVIOUS gluten-reaction was when I ordered the french fries, so I presumed that it wasn't a dedicated french-fryer; amazingly, my mate who can eat anything, insisted that it was the ketchup that sickened me, even though I insisted that it was Heinz, and thus safe.

I will keep my eyes peeled for the "artificial beef flavor."

Actually, I almost never eat anything that I don't personally cook... from scratch, but I'd mistakenly presumed that the french fries & ketchup would be SAFE, after all that ruckus years back about them frying their "gluten free french fries" in the same oil as all the breaded foods.

It’s not a “conspiracy”. Conspiracy involves something secretive and unknown to the unwashed masses...

This is more akin to a Godfather scene where the shakedown artists tell you what to do or else you will wake up with a bloody horses head next to you tomorrow.

Campbells and McDonalds are playing along thinking these maniacs can be appeased.

Dumbasses. The health Reich will never stop until it is crushed completely.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be trying out the recipe this week, it sounds good.

Actually, it amazes me how all the different brands of gluten-free PANCAKE FLOUR are so superior to all other flours & cake or cookie mixes, so I've got plenty of pancake flour on hand at all times.

I always keep multiple cans of chicken soup on hand for times of illness. This season has been dreadful for me and Mr. Trisham, and that soup came in handy. Fortunately, Mr. T is a trouper, and will manage to cook soup and chowder unless he is hospitalized. Let me tell you, shingles, bronchitis, the flu and chickenpox are no picnic.

And speaking of picnics.. :)

Think of any food. Now think of that food with bacon added. Everything is better with bacon!

How bout bacon? Yeah, I guess that works. A pound is better than a half pound!

They're superior because we eat a lot of pancakes and keep them competitive.

There's even a gluten free Bisquick out there now, but I have no idea if it's any good since I'm several sacks ahead of my next purchase.

Tip on cornbread. When you use any of the old recipes where they don't add wheat flour all you have to do to keep it all together is make it in a single pan, then just cut off blocks as you eat it.

Sea salt does vary considerably, so I was speaking in the generic. However, there are a few twists and turns to things.

First of all, unless it is iodized, sea salt typically lacks enough iodine, which used to be a problem for people who lived inland, which is why table salt is often iodized. Raw sea salt is somewhat bitter, so it is mixed with an agent to precipitate out much of the other salts from the brine.

But some kinds of sea salt are actually used specifically for the trace elements within. For example by people whose drinking water is distilled. Over time they can experience some trace mineral deficiency, plus adding just a little sea salt to their water improves its flavor.

But the biggest, by far, reason to use sea salt is because table salt is processed to include anti-caking agents, such as sodium silicoaluminate or magnesium carbonate. These keep its crystal size very small, so salt dissolves quickly in liquids. Sea salt, otherwise sold as kosher salt, has much larger crystals that don’t dissolve so quickly.

This matters to taste. Table salt will blend into many dishes so well that they don’t taste salty. But sea or kosher salt can be used to give the dish a salty tang.

I have even had some ice cream “with sea salt”, which is added just before it is frozen. It is a noticeable salty taste, and works well opposite caramel.

...I order 20lb bags of Dead Sea Salt to make bath salts from.

I prefer live sea salt. I like hearing the tiny little screams when I toss it into a pot of boiling water. ;^)

We cannot acquire the off-shore oil, but the libs have no problem with acquiring the off shore salt. We need someone to make sea-salt an environmental issue -then, NO MORE SEA-SALT!!!

But that would make this issue worse, not better. Because they wouldn't go back to normal salt, you just have to eat the stuff with NO salt at all! See, a liberal can't admit defeat and admit they were wrong on the first hysteria, they have to maintain they were right, but the alternative they forced on us has to go too. Like the plastic shopping bags they forced on us. Those are killing the environment, supposedly, but would the solution be to go back to the paper bags we were using before? Oh, no! A liberal is NEVER wrong.

McDonald's advertised their frenchfries as "purely vegetarian" yet they added tallow to the oil. Some Hindus sued their pants off for fraudulent misrepresentation.

The Hindus won. Then McDonald's quit putting tallow in. That's where that artificial beef flavor came on the scene.

Fortunately they didn't contaminate the frying oil. Instead they contaminated the ketchup.

It's still the ONLY place in America where they generally make an effort to assure the french fries are gluten free. Do not trust any of the others.

Unfortunately we usually only have soup to cook with so only buy it if we need it. Canned soup is just not something we always have. And I sure don’t feel like making my own right now. ;-)

Have you not witnessed the Government strong arming corporations to accede to their perceived wishes, one of which is lowered salt intake ostensibly to improve health and lower medical costs, especially for those on Medicare? Campbell just saw the PC handwriting on the wall and tried to get ahead of the curve. Think they thought that their lower salt products would be as tasty as before? The issue remains one of Government interference in what, up until now, has been our personal choice...just extend what you have seen the last 2 years into every facet of our living. Maybe you are comfortable with it, but I am not.

Inexcusable meddling in health care delivery is not a justification for inexcusable meddling in diet. In keeping with the reply I just made to another poster, liberal orthodoxy is NEVER proven wrong by failing deliver its promised benefits, its unforeseen negative consequences, or the paradoxes it leads us all into. The solution is always more power for them and less freedom for us.

The only lamb I can find is Halal. Sometimes, I am also looking at some pork, and a package or two might end up in the wrong spot. Purely by mistake, you understand....they are kept right next to each other.

Don't DO that! The stores will stop stocking anything made of pork just to be on the "safe" side!

Funny! I make a lot of craft items for Christmas gifts and this year I decided to try bath salts made from Dead Sea Salt. I add my own essential oils and blend it. In the past I mixed Kosher Salt with Epsom Salt to make bath salts but nothing can compare to the Dead Sea Salt. It makes the skin feel so soft and heals skin irritations, etc. It advises on the bag that it is not for eating due to minerals in it only found in the Dead Sea that are bitter to the taste.

I also grow my own Loofah sponges to give with the bath salts and I make glycerin/goat’s milk soap. They are all a big hit at Christmas. I hate shopping but I love to hand make things.

I make old-fashioned homemade Jim Beam Bourbon Balls for the guys in the family. :-)

Well enjoy your halal butchers.
I have no problem with any small business owner finding his niche.
My problem is with huge companies such a Campbells or Nabisco or whoever deliberately altering their recipes to be politically correct.
I for one, do not wish to encourage this usurpation of our American Culture.
