5 Reasons to Try Zorin OS Linux

One of the best features of the open source Linux operating system is that there are so many distributions to choose from.

Ubuntu gets by far the lion's share of the media's attention, it's true--largely by virtue of its top ranking at the top of DistroWatch's popularity list--but there are hundreds of other options out there as well, many tailored to particular kinds of users and situations.

I've already looked briefly at several of the Ubuntu derivatives that are available and more specifically at Linux Mint, which is currently third in popularity. Today, however, I'd like to make a pitch for Zorin OS, an Ubuntu-based distribution that offers a number of advantages with particular appeal for Windows users.

Zorin OS 4 was just released earlier this month. Why should you consider it? Here are just a few reasons.

Would you buy an OS from this man?

Though I really like his idea of how to deal with California more and more every day...

This is another distribution that touts its “Windows like” feel and functionality. Nothing wrong with that, except that many Linux users I read on line are knee-jerk anti-Microsoft reactionaries.

So this distribution likely aims at new Linux recruits, not the “Redmond is evil” crowd I encounter.

Linux Mint user here (and XP) and liking both.

Yeah, that’s a really unfortunate name they have there.

“Yes, I want to buy an OS from a Bond villain.”

One doesn't 'buy' a linux distro. One downloads it, and discards it if it doesn't work out.

I have slightly more rescued laptops than rescued catz. I have to feed the catz. Costs $$s. Who has $$s for OSes that don't/won't do what I want?

Linux it is. One on the house for that tall robot across the room. The one freaking out the catz by following them with the noisy webcam. LOL!

Better than the first dirsto name they came up with; Occtopussy.

Read the article. They’re *selling* all but the basic distro.

I dunno, I think that might sell better. :D

She wasn't a villain; I'd buy a distro from her. :D

“The Zorin OS 4 Core release is available for free download from the project’s site. Alternatively, Zorin OS 4 Gaming and Multimedia releases each cost 10 euros, while Zorin OS 4 Ultimate is 15 euros from the project’s store.”

Thanks for playing, we have this wonderful consolation prize for you on the way out....

Mash here to download a copy of linux from the NSA. Really. No back doors or anything. They promise.

They call it SElinux, but it came from a program named 'Flask'. You gotta wonder about the naming conventions.

Read the article. They’re *selling* all but the basic distro.

The free download is 1.2 GB. The fuller versions might be really onerous downloads.

Which means they aren't selling the distro. Just enhancements. So, I was correct again.

On another note.... E10? for an OS? That's even cheap for clueless idiots that buy distributions of OSes. What does Redmond charge these days? Much more than E10, I'm sure.

You can get a distribution free from here.

It's actually pretty secure.
