May I suggest http://www.gutenberg.org

over 30,000 free downloads found there.

Heavy “Classic” literature bias.

Many of them in HTML (including images and links).

Many of them formated for Kindle and other hand held readers.

There are great things there like the “Federalist Papers” etc.
