Hairspray, not a bomb, explodes on a plane at Miami International Airport

Hair spray has just been added to the "No Fly" list at Miami International Airport.

An aerosol can is believed to have caused a piece of luggage being unloaded from a plane to explode Tuesday, causing a mass panic for airport and fire rescue officials.

The Miami-Dade bomb squad was called to the airport around 11:30 a.m. after a baggage handler said he was unloading bags from an American Airlines flight arriving from Boston and a bag exploded, sending pieces of metal flying.

One of the splinters got lodged in his shoe.

The worker was not seriously injured, but the words "explosion" and "airplane" can't be used in the same sentence without the terror alert going up a few notches. Officials took the man's shoe and called in the dogs.

After clearing the tarmac, investigators determined there was no bomb on board, but instead one of the passengers would have to endure a bad hair day. It should be noted, that hair spray and other aerosol cans are not allowed in carry on luggage, which forces passengers to stuff the combustible hygiene products in tightly packed luggage.

The 148 passengers from Flight 2585 had already departed the plane before the aerosol can exploded. American Airlines officials said whoever the bag belonged to had probably already boarded a connecting flight.

The TSA is still investigating. No one has been questioned or arrested from the flight.

“Hair spray has just been added to the “No Fly” list at Miami International Airport.”

When Iran gives a nuke to Hezbollah to bring on a flight, I’m sure nukes will be banned on flights 3-4 minutes after it goes off.

Now THAT’s security.

They not only want us humiliated, they want us looking like the dirty hippies in the People’s Republic of Berkeley. No liquid mascara or lipstick, no hairspray, other items we are afraid to carry because we don’t want to have them paw through them (even if they are allowed).

Certain types of hairspray contains an old fashioned type of lacquer. It is a nitrocellulose based material. For those without basic chemistry nitrocellulose is also known as “Gunpowder”. TSA blew it again.....

More likely is that it contained, like all hair sprays, propane as the propellant.

I don't like the non-aerosol stuff. It just doesn't work as well.

Hair spray doesn't just 'blow up', there had to be a defect in either the can, or it was tampered with.
Tampering with a can tends to leave obvious damage to it.
Cans that have been tampered with will be obvious.
Unfortunately, The Sex Assaulters aren't smart enough to bother with the obvious, they'll just crack down on the honest normal people.

I grew up near MIA. I remember the graveyard of PAA & Northwest Orient Startocruisers tied down at the northwest corner; sitting in the cockpit of B-25s & B-26s; being on the flight deck of a DC-6 while the mechanics fired up the engines; Aero Commanders; C-119s.... God, it was great to be young there.

The problem with first reports is that they’re often wrong.
The baggage handler whacked a suitcase containing primer caps for bullets or shotgun shells and they went off. The owner has been arrested.
