Advice wanted from fellow Freepers on a Honeymoon trip. Where to go.

My son is getting married the weekend of Valentine's Day. He and is wife to be have not yet decided on a honeymoon location. Travel agents are steering them into one of those all inclusive, security fenced in places in Aruba or Cancun etc. I suggested a Cruise, but my son, a plumber and avid golfer, I think would probably go nuts after a couple days without doing something physical. My brother suggest Maui. Staying in San Francisco a day and then flying to there. I say anywhere but Mexico. The drug wars, etc have spilled into places like Alcapulco...so I'd say it would be crazy to go there.

I respect and look forward to the comments here.

"If you paid me a million dollars, I still wouldn’t go on a cruise. :-) To each his/her own."

As you say, to each his/her own, and if you have been on a cruise you have direct experience. However, if you haven't, the many cruise lines and ships have different character, levels of service, types of experiences, wow factor, etc. You might find one that appeals to you.

What next, the best sexual position?

I don't think the kid is mature enough to get married.

Have to agree. Grown adults need to make their own plans.

Scottsdale, Arizona. Great weather in February, magnificent golf resorts, high-end shopping, desert exploration, and he gets to stick a finger in the eyes of Obama and Napolitano. :)

On our Honeymoon we did some Hawaiian Island hopping.

We went to Kauai, Maui and the big island.

The Grand Hyatt Kauai was our favorite. Be sure to rent a car and drive into the rain forests -- we saw a dozen rainbows in one day!

Maui would be a close second choice -- only because it is more touristy. I would avoid the drive to Hana as it has over 600 curves. It is beautiful but a difficult drive and ride as well. If one must be sure to let somebody else do the driving and bring some ginger snacks to help with the potential motion dizziness/sickness.

The big island was great as well -- plenty of great things to do.

If you are going to do island hopping, I would spend about 5 days an island -- it is just enough time to do things and relax without it getting old.

BTW, the best island to do a helicopter ride is Kauai.

Hope this helps. Best wishes!

My wife and I are making plans to head here in 2012, just one of many “memorable” places for honeymoons & anniversaries in that part of God’s world.....we spent our 25th in Bali.

I think St. Lucia is the most awful place I have been to on the planet, and Grand Caymen, where I went this year, is on my ten least appetizing list, along with Zagreb.

My son and his wife just love the Kona Village. No outside distractions like tv and I believe it’s pretty all inclusive.
For our 40th anniversary we took a dream trip to The Amalfi Coast and Capri. We could have spent the entire trip on Capri it was so wonderful. If he wants physical activity he’ll get it with the amount of walking you have to do to get around.
