WASHINGTON (AP) A band of frigid weather was snaking up the East Coast on Sunday, promising blizzards and a foot of snow for New York City and New England, while several states made emergency declarations as the storm caused crashes on slick roads. Airlines grounded hundreds of flights Sunday along the Northeast corridor in anticipation of the storm. New York City-area airports alone canceled close to 1,000 flights. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said that number was expected to rise Sunday. Snow had started to fall in the area by late morning.

Thanks! :)
I’m cheering for the AccuWeather prediction - it’s half of NOAA’s prediction for my area :)
Snow flurries right now and the wind is picking up.
Sure is, isn't it? ;)
Used to do chicken neck crabbing in the bay
Have much luck at it? I know some folks do better at it than others....
btw, when you were in this area, did you ever go to Fort Monroe? Nice little historical spot...just one out of a million historical spots in VA...
You bet
You bet
Sure has some history to it. Robert E Lee lived there for a while when he was a young engineer. And Jefferson Davis was imprisoned there for a while after the war. It sure is nice to just stroll through...
Funny Fort Monroe story: Pre-911 my family attended the OP Sail 2000, tall ships as they paraded past the fort on their way to various harbors in Hampton Roads.
My Aunt and mom/dad had tickets at the review stand in front of the fort. Bro,kids and I had parking tickets for a beach 2+ miles up the island, couldn’t see a thing so we decided to leave.
On the way out we were going against the grain of all the incoming traffic and MP’s at each intersection kept waving us towards the fort. We couldn’t figure out why they were sending us to the VP section. When we got to the fort the only parking was in the motor pool lot, which was full of cars identical to ours, white, 2000 Dodge Intrepids.
We parked, walked through the fort and found the family and great seats for the ships passing 100 yards away.
Wow. lol. :)
Holy crapola!!! Looks like I’m getting 21.5 inches!! Spoke w/ my boss earlier. Monday is our early day (we start @ 6:30). He said he changed our message to state we’ll open @ 9 instead.
Yes, believe it or not, there are a few people who will travel in ANY weather for a root canal. Something we still can’t explain, lol.
He said he would come pick up the locals (as he usually does in big snow storms) but now I’ve got my V8 Ford Explorer, all wheel drive that drives wonderfully in this stuff . I still drive like an old lady in snowy weather, but I get there nice and safe.
We’ll talk again tomorrow morning @ 7:30 to see how bad it really gets. I just may get a snow day....woohoo!!
Its a good thing I have the Snow blower ready. After seeing that map it looks like I’ll be using it for a while.
It also looks like the commute to work in the AM will be hell.Because even in the Northeast we have people who don’t know how to drive in snow.
Too everyone here,Please Drive safely.
Can't wait until winter is over!
Amen! I get a$$holes riding my tail to get me to go faster. It's intimidating, but I refuse to go any faster. Some actually accelerate to get around me.
Best place for chicken neck crabbing is Rudee Inlet in VA Beach.
We’re only getting 1-3 inches. How many inches of snow do I need before using my new snowblower without looking like a fag?
Here’s hoping all FReepers and their family members get home safely from their Christmas visits!
Prayers up for all travelers to St. Anthony and St. Christopher.
GUESS WHAT?!!?!?! The planet’s got a fever! And the only prescription is more cowbell!
Warm globally, cool locally.
6 to 10 inches in Connecticut! Winter storm/blizzard warnings as well. Stay safe everyone in the affected areas.
WHDH-TV is predicting “thunder snow” for Massachusetts, with snow falling 2-4 inches an hour.
Heavy wet snow for Boston south along I-95. Fluffy snow north and west of Boston.
Yee haa, it’s snowing like hell and the Pats have the number one seed in the AFC. I’m making a batch of my yummy chili and life is good.
