I am trying to relax and watch Star Wars on a beautiful Christmas morning. However, my enjoyment quickly turned to disgust and I had to send the children out of the room and change the channel.
Star Wars, obviously an American icon and children's favorite, was interrupted every 8 minutes or so, to sell female self pleasure devices, i.e., vibrators. When they were not selling vibrators, they were selling some kind of lubricated condom guaranteeing his and her fantastic pleasure.
Now keep in mind this is in the morning, before noon, on Christmas morning during Star Wars.
Who is more likely to be watching Star Wars on a Saturday morning, Christmas morning? Children? or sex perverts?
I can only make the logical and natural assumption that Trojan and Spike TV are intentionally marketing these products to children.
I am a grown man and these commercial were grossing me out. I know what women are doing with that penis shaped vibrator. While I don't mind when it is 'in context', it is not something I want to think about on a Saturday Christmas morning while trying to watch Luke and Hans fight Darth and save the princess with the kids.
These commercials should never air before 10PM and never on a Saturday morning during children's programming. It is just simple common decency. What is wrong with these people!?
I am a grown man and far from a 'prude' but this just disgusting and it ruined the movie for everyone. Next time, I will just rent it.
Congratulations! You have just won the “Post Of The Day” award!
So it’s better to restrict the freedoms that businesses have in this country to make money and sell advertising time rather than have you change the channel? It’s Spike TV fer cryin’ out loud, the TV station for males who are still stuck in adolescence. What else did you expect?
What you are saying is that it’s okay to require someone to meet your goals/standards/ideals, etc.?
That’s the problem with so-called conservatives these days. They are no different from the libs. They want to use the power of gov’t to restrict the actions of others just like the libs do. And they say it’s all okay because their cause is so much more righteous.
I know where you’re coming from. Even though I’m aware SpikeTV is an extremely trashy network which I consciously avoid, I probably would have been similarly blindsided, considering it being a “Star Wars” movie and on Christmas morning.
But incidents like this are exactly the reason I stopped watching ALL such channels entirely, and ALL such networks. To hell with it all. So, I restrict my viewings (other than news/weather) to dvd’s exclusively. Perhaps I miss a few good modern shows, but it’s worth it to avoid the nauseating situations like the one you encountered.
A FReeper with the handle “STD” posts on a thread with “Condoms” in the title, on Christmas day.
I need a drink.
Do you know how to send these e-mail addresses to everyone who wants to contact Spike about vibrators on TV during childrens viewing times. Star Wars and the Wizard of Oz during the morning on Spike. The bad news is that Spike is part of MTV. Who owns MTV? How can we contact ownership?
Fire at will!
how about canceling your “ pay for TV subscription?”-
Also- you can buy ton’s of family friendly movies
from -Feature Films for Family-
Here's a still from it:
Now bear in mind the animated portion is considered the best part! Earlier in the special we get the joy of seeing Chewbacca's father Itchy (no...really?) immerse himself in a virtual reality system in which he experiences what can only be described as phone sex with Diahann Carroll.
I wish I were making this up.
Those who play doctor on internet forums are generally significantly more in need themselves what they prescribe for others. Physician, heal thyself.
“What ever happened to The Wizard of Oz and The March of the Wooden Soldiers over the holidays?”
I’m 73 and I wouldn’t have gone to or watched that kind of crap at any age!!!
By the way... coming soon to newsstands, and probably a TV near you: The Sports Illustrated swim suit edition, and all the various V shows promoting it... be ready to avert your eyes lest your delicate sensibilities be offended.
Your complaint is semi-valid at best. Think about it, if someone complained that they were watching the Playboy channel on Christmas morning and saw naked women, wouldn’t you first ask why they were watching the Playboy channel on Christmas morning? Yours is exactly the same scenario. Spike isn’t family friendly and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s playing Star Wars because of its appeal to a cult following of adult nerds, which happens to be Spike’s audience.
Reminds me of when I was trying to watch a movie with my dad one time on one of these cable channels and every damn commercial was for either birth control medication or “male enhancement” pills. This is why I don’t do cable or satellite. Why should I send $50 a month in support of these classless idiots?
Im 73 and I wouldnt have gone to or watched that kind of crap at any age!!!
That's a rather harsh review of "The Wizard of Oz"! Oh well, to each their own.
My ears are burning. I wonder why?
same for Star wars!
I saw about 3 minutes of that one time and changed channels, it was stupid crap.
Lol. It wasn't a slam. I certainly qualify. I hope I didn't seem harsh to the OP. He's probably just not familiar with the channel. However, I think my juxtaposition with the Playboy channel describes it perfectly. Both are entirely adult channels by design, so no one should ever expect family friendly viewing.
They have nudity on the Hobo channel?
I thought that was reserved for skinny max.
Careful, the OP is going to be prescribing meds to you next...
I think it’s a pretty valid complaint he has. In years past, networks like TBS, USA, TNT, etc., had these kinds of movie marathons on holidays, including “Star Wars,” old and new. And, to many people, especially casual tv-viewers, it’s easy to lump SpikeTV into that kind of channel mix. Indeed, during the daytime, don’t they ALL run the same kind of movie programming? All those channels ‘look’ the same nowadays. It would be very easy to be blindsided.
Now keep this in mind.
You're paying for it, why?
Most people don't understand why I hate TV. It selected 0bastard0 for us. Is that not enough?
