I am trying to relax and watch Star Wars on a beautiful Christmas morning. However, my enjoyment quickly turned to disgust and I had to send the children out of the room and change the channel.
Star Wars, obviously an American icon and children's favorite, was interrupted every 8 minutes or so, to sell female self pleasure devices, i.e., vibrators. When they were not selling vibrators, they were selling some kind of lubricated condom guaranteeing his and her fantastic pleasure.
Now keep in mind this is in the morning, before noon, on Christmas morning during Star Wars.
Who is more likely to be watching Star Wars on a Saturday morning, Christmas morning? Children? or sex perverts?
I can only make the logical and natural assumption that Trojan and Spike TV are intentionally marketing these products to children.
I am a grown man and these commercial were grossing me out. I know what women are doing with that penis shaped vibrator. While I don't mind when it is 'in context', it is not something I want to think about on a Saturday Christmas morning while trying to watch Luke and Hans fight Darth and save the princess with the kids.
These commercials should never air before 10PM and never on a Saturday morning during children's programming. It is just simple common decency. What is wrong with these people!?
I am a grown man and far from a 'prude' but this just disgusting and it ruined the movie for everyone. Next time, I will just rent it.
I'll freely admit to being a (somewhat) narcissistic atheist. I'd like to think I'm not creepy, though :-)
;-)
There are a few good programs and channels out there but the fly in the ointment effect from the trashy ones spoils the package.
From the day of the movie’s release back in the 70s to today there has always been a ton of Star Wars toys, games and merchandise aimed at kids. I think the term “children’s movie” is a bit fuzzy.
Notice that there have been Star Wars themed “Happy Meals.” I’ve never seen a Brave Heart “Happy Meal.”
Your right about the Spike network. I wouldn’t let kids watch anything on it.
Teenage boys are out of school.
Oh my... someone cut me off it traffic... I’ll start a FR thread to vent my anger...
Get over it.
Spike-TV is what it is. Anyone with even half a wit can look at their program listings and figure out their intended audience, and one with even a less than half a wit and a modicum of understanding of how the advertising industry works will know what to expect in ads on Spike-TV, and should know if they are easily offended, Spike-Tv is going to do it one way or another.
You sound like a vegan that would whine that a steak house has no veggie burger on the menu...
There's a little bit of that in all of us however the Almighty One loves us even when we are astray and in error. That dude in my mirror needs a little course correction quite often.
Exactly, it’s like complaining that there is nudity on HBO.
I agree with you. Normally I don’t watch it.
But, I thought SW would be innocent enough. What a surprise.
When the commercials first came on I had to do a double take in disbelief.
“Is that what I think it is?”
But I am learning by this thread that I guess Spike is known for that kind of stuff.
I just didn’t know that the programming director for Spike is Jerry Springer.
Oh well, learned my lesson.
Gads! IIRC, that came out in 1978, and was terrible then.
I’ve noticed those ads ~ sure glad they are no longer recommended by “Hello Kitty”.
Let’s all do what FReepers do naturally. Write, e-mail and contact Spike TV to put a limit on when this ‘junk’ is aired. Your 10PM limit seems Okay by me! However, lets decide whether we want it on TV at all. What say you guys?
Wasn’t the Star Wars Christmas special declared a crime against all humanity? I thought all of the copies were destroyed and the writers with them.
That's a fair point, although I would point out that the same could be said of Star Trek toys, games, and merchandise...and the various Star Trek series and movies aren't aimed at children (the animated '70s series aside). Some franchises have appeal across broad demographics.
Sorry my post is making your head explode. Unexpected reaction.
I think this is a little more than being cut off in traffic. It is about the degeneration of our country.
This is a Chit/Chat thread. You don’t have to be here.
Hey Keith, there’s a new thing out called valium. You should look into it.
Regards
Here you go FReepers. E-mail this clown about Trojan Vibrators advertised while children are watching the Wizard of Oz. Steve do you have your details right Buddy?
