Just wondering if anyone else out there is spending the evening alone. Not necessarily a bad thing. I'm sipping a cappuccino and taking in "A Christmas Story" in the old man cave. I'll be with family tomorrow, but as of tonight, it's my faithful Boxer and me. And Ralphie.
Merry Christmas Y’all!
A loner, but not lonely. For those of us who choose to be alone, but busy and productive, I recommend: "Party of One", by Anneli Rufus. What a read for those whose voices will never form a chorus....and they like it that way!
I look forward to another year of fine repartee on the best Conservative site on the net!
Cheers to all!
I am an old coot myself. Full of regrets, remembering nothing more than all the mistakes along the way, that have led me, as I believe, to this rotten place, one step or two from a sleeping bag under a freeway overpass.
I took out $200 dollars from an ATM this morning, or maybe it was yesterday, saw the balance of my account, bigger than it ever was, and cried, like Howard Hughes must have cried, he with all his money, all his loneliness, and his madness.
Just this year I realized the futility of the rat race, the meaninglessness of all my financial riches, which buy me nothing a man’s soul needs on this earth.
The first time I saw that movie there were Ss many similarities to me and my childhood that I was sure that either everyone had the same Christmas memories or Jean Sheppard must have been chronicling my life at that age. It was scary.
I looked like Ralphie, grew up in the same era, went to a red brick school where the double dog dare was to lick the flagpole during a freeze.
I lusted for a Red Ryder BB gun. My mother said I’d shoot my eye out. My dad got me one anyway.
I didn’t have a little brother, but my great-aunt always got me creepy clothes for a present. Not a rabbit suit thank God.
The dogs actually ate the Turkey off our drainboard. We didn’t go to a Chinese restarurant, just made do with the veggies and stuffing.
Like I said, the similarities were startling, then funny, then cherished. I watch it every year with more affection for “Ralphie” than ever. I hope every one of you has a little of Ralphie in him.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
OK, too late... ;-)
Thank you. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Alone except for my 3 little yorkies laying at my feet and my friends at FR. Thank God for all of you! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you! This is the first Christmas in a while that I have felt such a swelling of celebration. My heart is filled with contentment, and I feel there is a spirit of hope and renewal in our world tonight.
It’s good to be here with Freeper Friends - they’re the best!
I agree, it’s not a bad thing to have some relaxing quiet alone time - especially before a hectic (albeit fun) day with the family. :-)
Merry Christmas!
Sort of. Went to drop off some gifts at the home of Hindu friends who celebrate Christmas -lights, tree - then home. So nice and quiet. Making a midnight meal for husband when he gets home from work.
That one is a good belly laugh thanks...
You know, watching those dogs eat the turkey in “A Christmas Story” reminds me of all those times that pets I’ve have had have gotten into something of mine. I’d always thought child-proofing a house was the piece de resistance of great housekeeping, but, I swear, dog-proofing is just as challenging.
I knew someone, too, who had a house bitten to smitherines by a squirrel that had gotten inside and couldn’t get out. The people were on vacation. I guess the furniture & curtains were strewn all over in pieces.
A friend knows someone that fed a rat who lived under his sink in his apartment. As in until the rat died. I guess they had an ‘understanding.’ I would not be so understanding myself.
After careful planning of a wonderful snowed in week end with our daughter, SIL, 2 grandchildren...turkey, casseroles, hot breads, Santa tomorrow morning with a 3 and 2 yr. old...Could it get much better????
STOMACH FLU BUG HIT DAUGHTER’S HOUSE. Hubby and I are at home alone for the entire weekend. Snowed in together...alone...after thirty years not much more to talk about...quiet. BIG DISAPOINTMENT
10-4 me too on that one---There's a little bit of the miserable Ebeneezer Scrooge in all of us. Let it be a catalyst to draw us even closer to His Light where real joy and peace reside.
I feel it as well.
Merry Christmas.
no...no...no...no...no! You have your FRiends...and you live in AMERICA!
I’m a financially-poor old woman. Do you mean to tell me that THIS is why I get to be filled with joy???
Tell you what, don’t ever tell me what’s wrong with my grammer and I will be nice to you. Merry Christmas
Heavens no Bannie-—may you have joy, peace and the provisions for all you need my prayer is for you.
Grammar? GRAMMAR? We don’t need no stinkin’ GRAMMAR!!!
;-)
I, don’t, know; nuttin’.
:-D
