About the only way possible for that shooting to be justified is for the guy with the knife to have lunged at a by-stander. Barring that, that cop will spend many years in jail...

So sorry, the local prosecutor declined to charge a crime. The PD is now deciding if he will be subject to discipline.

I do believe that the average police officer would act with concern for the safety of public citizens, and not drive up a one way street against traffic.

And yes, if he was a dangerous suspect as you say, then maybe the police officer should have driven up the one way street, but he didn’t did he?

The officer said that the Indian was armed and made a threatening move with the knife after being repeatedly told by the officer to drop the knife. The Indian was a felon. He was a convicted sexual predator with an extensive rap sheet.

A dangerous armed man.

I live in the universe of due process.

Officer Birk didn’t have to approach him if he was afraid of being attacked. Cop cars do have loudspeakers that he could have used to order the man to drop the knife. Murder, Guilty, 20 years.

The officer said that the Indian was armed and made a threatening move with the knife ...

Link please.

He was a convicted sexual predator...

Link please. And tell us how that excuses shooting him down or how that is due process.

So, that has nothing to do with if this guy was breaking the law or not.

You are right! If I had made that mistake it would cost me my freedom, why not him?

Out here where I live in a city near by we had a cop shoot and kill another cop in training. He said he thought the gun wasn’t loaded when he aimed pointed and killed the other cop. If a citizen had done that he would be facing Capital Murder but since he’s a cop he is getting counseling and keeping his badge.

I agree with you and everything also magnum44(I think) have said. Yes the issue nowadays is everyone runs to the government to handle every little thing.

It’s the same with doctors. Health care costs are out of control because we now run to them for everything. We have become this way over the years and have become dependent upon the gub’mit.

It is insane that the police get away with all the crap they do. It’s insane how much the gub’mit gets away with. You read this board and every day people complain about government control. Well folks it starts at the ground troops and that is what the police are.

Police just like gub’mit have their place but, they are not to be all encompassing controllers of our lives. They are there to keep the peace but as we ask them to take care of every little thing they get more involved.

Now they get to execute us for not breaking the law.
When you speak of taking control back it has to be at all levels.

So the officer knew he was a felon?
He folded the knife and the shots were not fired facing him but from the side. This means he was in the process of turning.

He may have been on his way committing a crime but fact is he wasn’t at that time and he wasn’t acting like he was going to committing a crime. He was murdered.

It would have been nice if Mr. Williams had gotten due process rather than summary execution.

Have you ever heard of the Tueller Drill? Not as many problems with this shooting as you’d think.

Think outside the court of public opinion.

I live in the universe of due process.

And we live in a universe where cops are rapidly losing the respect and admiration from the citizens they are hired to protect and serve.

There is no denying the change in attitude because of events such as this one in Seattle.

Your right, I misread the context of your post.

My opinions about the growing police state mentality and the loss of our 2nd amendment rights to carry for ourselves remain.

The BART cop should have been sent up for life. The Costco killers should be sent up for life. This Seattle cop should be sent to the chair.

Innocent killings wont stop until someone puts a muzzle on LEO’s who think they do anything without restraint or consequence.

I pray for the day when cops are the peoples ally again, not the peoples ‘keepers’.

The cartels will probably do that.

You'll be so much happier then, when MS15 is running things.

Yes there are many problems with this. The tueller drill doesn’t explain this nor does it justify it.

When a cop discharges his gun, he's to empty it and kill. Make it your business to review your police department's policies regarding deadly force.

Not sure what the laws are around you, but I shoot with cops all the time here in Il and in MO where I spend my summers. No such policies in those states. The SOP for a cop who draws his weapon with intent to use it is to stop a suspect from hurting others or in self-defense. Here in IL and MO, they are trained to double pump into the torso, not empty their clips. Furthermore, that was a semi-auto, so a full clip would have been seven at minimum.

The Seattle police have already found the shooting was unjustified. Birk has tur4ned in his badge and gun. Further evidence has shown the knife was not only legal at 3" in length (1/2" below legal limit for Seattle), but IT WAS CLOSED!

The officer therefore had no reason to think he or others were in danger. The inquest is in January and I have two words for that cop: Orange Jumpsuit.
