Russian Arms in ROK(South Korea) Armed Forces?

there were hands full of Soviet tanks in ROK Army for OPFOR role.

now they got 35 T-80U and 70 BMP-3 in the inventory. those weren't imported for OPFOR role but fielded in the front line, in 3rd Armored Brigade.

Article says it is a trade deal requirement. Russians said if you want access to Russian natural resources, buy about $3 billion worth of this stuff.

So...about $1.5 billion purchased so far.

there is a possibility buying dozens of Ka-32 choppers for ROK Marines. not sure,though.

The problem with depending on Russian equipment lies in having to depend on the Russians for a continuing supply of parts and in-service engineering support.

Very shaky for a western country to make any portion of its national defense hostage to Russian good will.

They are just not reliable.
