BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) They fought to save a life, and now they say theyll fight the fine.
It all revolves around the rescue of a deer trapped in icy water Thursday night.
Alex DeMetrick reports that good deed was rewarded with tickets.
Strangers banded together to pull a deer out of the freezing water of the Patapsco River on Thursday night.
We seen the deer going under, said Khalil Abusakran. It couldnt maintain. It was starting to freeze, and it was really getting bad.
Abusakran brought a raft, and Jim Hart joined him.
We had oars and shovels to break the ice, for the deer to get out, Abusakran said.
But in the excited aftermath of the rescue, a natural resources police officer on the scene wrote both men a ticket.
And he didnt say anything, Jim Hart said. We went in and out of the water numerous times. He didnt stop us at all.
They say they were ticketed for not wearing life vests, although both are over the age for mandatory use of flotation devices.

About five or ten minutes, isn't it?
You're right, I had forgotten about that. Nancy has that infuriating politically correct smugness that I associate with both MD and CA government employees.
I think you’ve identified another item to cut from the State or Federal budget...probably have these “resource officers” in both State and Federal positions. It’s no wonder this country is insane and broke!
I think it’s the individuals that are at fault in these kinds of things. They either are too ignorant of the real laws, cannot or are unable to make a real-time decision, or are too afraid of having someone accuse them of not doing their job (usually their boss).
>>”Id say you should learn something about the Federal firearms laws which make it perfectly legal for an interstate traveler to carry a gun thru a jurisdiction where the gun in question would otherwise be illegal,...”<<
Not trying to be humorous. Maybe you would interpret the following different than I did. “...knowingly transport a handgun in any vehicle traveling on public roads, highways, waterways or airways or upon roads or parking lots generally used by the public.”
To me that means NO!
http://www.mcsm.org/mdlaw.html
“It is unlawful for any person without a permit to wear or carry a handgun, openly or concealed, upon or about his person, >>>> or to knowingly transport a handgun in any vehicle traveling on public roads, highways, waterways or airways or upon roads or parking lots generally used by the public. <<<< This does not apply to any person wearing, carrying or transporting a handgun within the confines of real estate owned or leased by him, or on which he resided, or within the confines of a business establishment owned or leased by him.” [3]

Good Muslims Face Reward After Rescuing Pig From Icy Water
This would happen in Wisconsin as well. DNR guy would write a ticket like that, easy.
The guys were probably too wet and cold to think clearly after all that, but if it were me and I was thinking, I and the other guy would have thrown the DNR dud into the watery hole we rescued the deer from.
Welcome to marxist Gov. O’Malley’s marxist state of “1984.”
I got smart and left in 1966. I live in Virginia where we have more sane people than insane ones. In Maryland, the sane live in fear while the insane hunt or ticket them.
Hey assholes in Maryland. You voted for this bastard and his munchens Mikulski and Cardin and Der Furher Von Hollen and Cummings and Pinsky, etc. You are getting what you deserve:
decaying city - Baltimore, with lots of crime, continually jailed or deposed mayors, high taxes, high unemployment, decrepit schools for the most part graduating new generations of welfare mothers and wanton fathers with few job skills and even less desire to be something worthwhile.
corrupt politicians - the list is too long.
Anti-business licensing fees, taxes, etc. Look at West Baltimore for a shithole. Oh where is Curtis Bay’s shipbuilding industries? Bethlehem Steel?
Yep, you got what you deserved and it isn’t going to get any better.
At least in my family, we put a bunch of career criminals away for a good while.
Hey O’Malley - ever going to use the Death Penalty? How about the corrupt, immoral Democrat-controlled legislature pushing for using the DP instead of abolishing it? You’ve got enough criminal killers around to keep Old Sparky in business for years.
I’d ask why God did this to what was once a good state, but I think God moved to Virgina and doesn’t want to get involved in that failure across the Potomac.
Price Georges County anyone? The bodies are piled high and the politicians are finally going to jail, while the average citizen still gets screwed by taxes, crimes, corruption. Yep, you voted for those bastards and you got them. Good for you!
That means no, if you live in Maryland, or are visiting someone in Maryland. Federal laws apply for poeple who are just passing through. I don;t have the exact sections of FOPA as applicable, but here’s the NRA summary of it:
Under FOPA, notwithstanding any state or local law, a person is entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he or she may lawfully possess such firearm to any other place where he or she may lawfully possess it, if the firearm is unloaded and locked out of reach. In vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm shall be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Ammunition that is either locked out of reach in the trunk or in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console is also covered. FOPA also seems to provide for necessary stops, like gasoline and rest.
My fellow prole’s, this ain’t America anymore.
BUT BE ADVISED, WE ARE TAKEING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to you both. We’re just traveling through the state and don’t plan any stops. I will place my pistol in a locked box (unloaded) and put it in the back of the truck while traveling through MD.
Thanks again. Merry Christmas
Thanks, Svartalfiar, for clarifying a point I was trying to make, namely, that when INTERSTATE travel is involved, the Federal firearms statutes “trump” local and state laws.
For example, even back in the days when handguns were totally outlawed in the District of Columbia, a Virginia resident could legally drive thru DC with a handgun locked in his trunk, as long as he was journeying to a state like Pennsylvania where his gun would be legal.
You guys saved me some gas money, thanks. I’ll use it to buy more ammo.
In the print version this week in the local rag they featured a story of a DEP officer who rescued a small doe from an icy grave in a semi-frozen pond. The story elaborated by a huge photo with the animal wrapped in blankets ..ending the tale that she died anyway from hypothermia. And I should mention the DEP officer spent the WHOLE day [while he was on the clock] trying to save her.
