Mariah Carey set record straight on bisexual rumors
Showbiz Spy ^ | 13 December 2010

MARIAH Carey has spoken out to address rumors about her sexuality.

In a new interview with The Advocate magazine, the singer — who’s expecting her first child with husband Nick Cannon — insists she isn’t bisexual.

“If it makes somebody happy to say that, then whatever, but that’s not the reality,” she said.”I don’t have a discriminatory policy of who I’m friends with, so yes, I’m friends with women who are gay — gay, straight, it doesn’t matter to me. So I don’t get upset when I hear that, because it is what it is. I guess I could lie about it to seem more exciting.”

Carey is an open advocate of gay marriage rights.

“If two people want to get married, it’s their prerogative — we hope. Everybody should be able to do what they want to do and be in the pursuit of happiness,” she said.

“Ever since I was a little girl, my mother was very open-minded and had many different types of friends, so being gay never seemed wrong or strange to me.

“Maybe part of the connection is that I do write songs from an outsider perspective. A lot of my die-hard gay fans don’t just know my singles, but they also know all the album cuts.

“I have songs about feeling different and alienated, because I grew up with my own issues, being biracial and not having money.”

I hate to say this...but outside of NY City and the media...most Americans probably wouldn’t recognize her if she walked into a gas station or department store. And if you asked one hundred teenagers to name one big hit from her...I’d bet on only ten percent being able to do it.

It seems like a lot of celebrities are coming out these days and telling people to stop referring to them as homosexuals.

There ya go.

Biracial, poor, open-minded mom leads Mariah to:

1. Not have a discriminatory policy of who she is friends with (that is a lie).

2. conclude if two people want to marry, guy-guy, girl-girl, whatever whatever, that’s just super.

Everyone has a discriminatory policy of who they are friends with. Nobody is friends with everybody. All the serial murderers in California, are they Mariah’s friends? The child rapists, best buds? How about the embezzlers and all the people in the music business that made Mariah feel like she was an “outsider”? All those people hanging out at Mariah’s house all the time?

My God the woman doesn’t know what words mean. Discrimination is used every day to make choices. It isn’t a bad thing automatically. Discrimination based on STUPID REASONS is not to be applauded. Discrimination based on good, sound, logical reasons is well worthy of admiration.

They are the same kinds of people (liberals) who don’t like being labeled truthfully for what they are.

They now want to be called “flexisexuals”. Whatever they feel like that given moment.

Perhaps the right word would be ‘polysexual’.

She sounds reasonably intelligent. If those are her own words, two thumbs up.

It’s her twenty-years running biracial obsession that irritates the hell out of me. Big effing deal! I’m biracial, so what? Or do you only get to make a big production of it if you’ve got a little black shoe polish on your pedigree?

All I know is that Mariah Carey had a great start in 1990 with her debut album, sang a great Christmas song, then decided she was black and spent the next decade making hip-hop videos, rolling with the homeys and wearing god-awful hooker outfits before she had her memorable meltdown.

I have gay friends too, but sodomy is a sin.

I don't care if she is running around with a pair of velcro gloves.

I don't understand everyone’s fascination with celebrity proclivities.

About the only "stars" I would recognise would be Clint Eastwood, George Strait, Alan Jackson and Reba McEntire. Even then, I wouldn't pay them any mind.

Everybody should be able to do what they want to do and be in the pursuit of happiness,” she said.

Ummm, no. There are limits to what you can do. Generally right up to the point where your pursuit of happiness impacts someone else's. Unless your the federal government, then you can confiscate my property in order to reward someone else. (but that is a different rant)

Hey Miriah, if someone wants to wear sheets and burn crosses - that makes them happy - how's that with you? If someone wants to profile passengers at the airport - how's that with you? If preserving the definition of Marriage as a union between a man and a woman makes someone happy - how's that with you?

How do you hear of Reba and not her? MAYBE Streisand and Madonna have sold more records then Carey and certainty not within the past 20 years.

I don’t listen to any of those women yet I flip the dial on the radio enough to know who they are.

I live in a very rural area with only two radio stations and I don’t watch TV, so I have never heard a Mariah Carey song in my life. I could check her out on Youtube, but I’m just not interested in listening to pop music.

Biracial? I guess that means black/white mix? If that's the
case you're a regular thoroughbred compared to me. Honestly
I'm not real sure what I am except a mutt and kind of like it
that way. Drives the libs nuts that I haven't figured out
what to put before “____________- American”. Never know, I
might be missing out on some handouts!

Yeah, but Mariah Carey hasn't looked like that photo in many years. She's older, a lot heavier, and IMO can't hold a candle to her own self. For example, this was taken earlier this month:

She was a lovely-verging-on-gorgeous young lady, back a ways. Now, not so much.

I never much cared for her singing, personally, but I acknowledge that she's very talented.

And yes, I know that she's said she's pregnant, and that no doubt contributes to her heavy aspect. But she'd been putting it on for a while before that, judging by the photos from 2009 and earlier 2010...

There was a time when I had a vague case of the hots for Carey, back in the 90's (as did a lot of guys). *sigh* Sic Transit.
