youtube video showing roof collapsing under weight of snow. (Was Algore in town?)
there’s talk of the Vikings moving to LA......this may hasten their demise
The Metrodome cost $68 million to buildroughly $2 million under budget
The Metrodome will become a snow bowl until springtime.
An allegory to the Vike’s pathetic season - only outdone by the Redskins pooching the extra point today with seconds left against Tampa Bay ...
JUST LIKE THE PACKERS!!!!!!!!
Absolutely correct about FLW. I love his designs but it has cost millions to preserve Fallingwater, and it took 60 years to stop the windows from leaking at Wingspread (the most beautiful building I have ever been in.)
Same way at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Blows you away! Actually fun! (fun with physics!)
The one saving grace is that they did continue the “Fieldhouse Theme...” When I was a kid, since my Mom was born in Indpls we used to spend our 2 week vacations (of course in the middle of July) in a hotbox on Meridian Street. Used to go out to the Country Club via Butler U and passed the Starlight Theatre and Hinkle Fieldhouse. That theme is perfect for the city. (I used to go to Ayres Tea Room too!)
Or elevated to engineering senior management (if peter principle applies at his workplace).
Would like to see the stats between Twin Cities and Syracuse NY for snow. Both have Domes and I think the Carrier Dome has gone down only a couple of times (the policy was to deflate it if they got tons of Lake effect) and since the roof was replaced in 1999 it has never collapsed. They get a heck of a lot of snow in Syracuse! (I notice that the Twin cities aren’t even ON this list!
1. Blue Canyon, Calif. 240.3 9. Sexton Summit, Ore. 97.8
2. Marquette, Mich. 141.0 10. Muskegon, Mich. 96.1
3. Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. 117.4 11. Buffalo 93.6
4. Syracuse, N.Y. 115.6 12. Rochester, N.Y. 92.3
5. Caribou, Maine 111.6 13. Erie, Pa. 88.8
6. Mount Shasta, Calif. 104.9 14. Alpena, Mich. 84.6
7. Lander, Wyo. 100.4 15. Binghamton, N.Y. 84.2
8. Flagstaff, Ariz. 100.3 Valdez, Alaska 326.0
Don’t worry, your arch rival Packers folded like a cheap suit today.
Do you think they’ll ever use that stadium again?
You are now my sworn enemy on FR ;-)
They really did stink today.
I agree Lucas Oil Stadium is a beautiful structure.
As is Conseco Fieldhouse.
But the sums of money we are allocating to sports teams is going to bankrupt the city.
Oh heavens yes.
It’s just a blow-up roof.
Replace a couple panels, inflate it up, dry out the field, and go.
Damage likely not that big a deal.
Same thing happened in Pontiac Mich.
The Twin Cities isn’t on that snow fall list because it is much too cold for most of the winter to have those huge snowfalls like NY gets.
The Vikings suck so bad, the roof caved in.
