Latest Storm Headlines
* This has the potential to be the biggest snowstorm for much of Minnesota since Halloween, 1991.
* Potential for 1-2 feet of snow Saturday, with 2-5 foot drifts during the PM hours.
* Close to blizzard criteria - best chance of white-out conditions south/west of the metro area.
* Winter Storm Warning for much of Minnesota/Wisconsin. Blizzard Watch posted for southwestern MN.
* Get your errands/shopping done today, snow arrives late evening, between 8 and 10 pm, snow gets heavier and steadier as the night goes on - should be snowing heavily when we wake up Saturday morning.
* Conditions get worse as the day goes on tomorrow as winds increase and snow accumulates (even on the freeways and interstates). Temperatures will fall through the teens into the single digits - making it a light, powdery snow - prone to blowing and drifting.
* I know this is a mouthful, but travel simply isn't recommended Saturday and Saturday night. Never tell a Minnesotan not to travel, I get it. But the combination of snow/wind/falling temperatures will create truly treacherous conditions. If you run out of gas or go into a ditch tomorrow it could be more than just a minor inconvenience. With wind chill values dipping to -25 or lower it could quickly become life-threatening. Try to get your travel done by this evening, or plan on waiting until Sunday (afternoon) to get back on the highways.
* Wind chills by Saturday night dip down to -20 to -35, extreme danger zone.
Please add us to the Minnesota Ping List! We have just moved here from our beloved Chautauqua Lake in Western NY.

Grain Belt Nordeast?
Yeah, I had a bottle of it about two months ago. I liked it.
That’s another good one to consider.

(and more booze)
I know Minnesotans aren’t THIS hopeless. I mean, really? They need to be told that going out in whiteout conditions with 2-5 foot drifting snow is a bad idea? File that under “D” for “Duh”.
The last snow storm (is 5” a “storm”?) someone from the DOT was on the radio doing psa’s saying “YOUR GONNA DIE IF YOU USE YOUR CRUISE CONTROL IN THE SNOW!!!!”... is it a bright idea to use it? no. Will you die? Probably not.
I predict this storm will be like the last one they predicted. It dropped 0” of snow on is. While we will see some snow, I’d be surprised to see the depths they are predicting.
And Paul Douglas is a global warming idiot.
Read the other day that Buffalo had four feet just the other day. Minnesota needs to stop crying.
What about the children?
Headlines in the NYT:SNOW STORMS HIT MIDWEST, WOMEN AND MINORITYS HARDEST HIT.
OK, lets go with HWY 61 scenic drive. North shore drive.
I used to bartend up in Cass county. The drink of choice was Windsor Canadian whiskey. They drank it by the barrels when Winter set in. It was unbelievable.
I know ya’ll are worried about me up in Duluth.
I can report we had about 3 flakes around noon.
I hear you guys in the Twin Cities have a few stories to tell though.
Yeah, it’s bad down here. I live on a snow emergency route in Minneapolis. They’re keeping it pretty well plowed. The side streets are hellacious. Even here in the metro area, the snow is blowing really bad. I can’t imagine what it’s like out in the rural areas.
The latest snow totals that I’m seeing are:
20 inches in Oakdale, a northeast suburb of St Paul.
18 inches in Shakopee, a southweste suburb of Minneapolis.
16 inches at MSP Airport.
I remember the Halloween storm. It was actually two storms within a 48-hour period. The worst of it was that it rained before the first storm hit. The rain froze and the roads remained rutted with ice ‘til early April.
Snowblower auger broke so that’s what I’m having now.
We stayed in the house all day. Just got done with the driveway and I guess I will have to do it again tomorrow depending on the drifts and what the plow does to the end of the driveway.
St Patricks day 2002 we had 27 inches in 24 hours. Just over 30 inches for the whole storm. Predictably, I was on the highway, 8 1/2 months pregnant. Scariest ride I have ever been a passenger in, 50 miles of white knuckles and held breath.
I was going to drive down there tonight. What do ya think? Wait till tomorrow?
Unless, of course, you find yourselves broken-off from the mainland and adrift towards Hawaii.
Today is 78 degrees, unlimited visibility, so clear, Catalina Island looks like you can reach out and touch it...We've got a very mild on-shore Pacific breeze, sunny, no clouds...So many Oranges on the Trees, we are giving them away...
