It’s disgusting how some people gain off other’s weakness.

For some who get behind, they can’t catch up and their life’s belongings are sold to highest bidder.

Self-storage units are cash cows.

A US company lays off 500 employees and moves operations to India. Their stock gets a boost and the CEO a bonus.

I couldn’t do it. This is why I stay away from the market.

I don’t have the answers to your question, but I try to live, as Jesus would have me.

I do not see Him bidding for profit, while others suffer.

This is my heart.

… Just as it’s ethically wrong to burn grain to power a Cadillac, while people starve for food.

I read an article about these storage units and their delinquency auctions in the WSJ many years back, that was similar in some ways to this one. Some people used these storage units for crimes, eg making drugs. I think the OKC bombers mixed the ingredients for the truck bomb in one.

Many sales were "white elephant auctions" where the bidders weren't allowed even a peek from the door, and the only info they were given was the number of months/years the customers had paid rent before finally lapsing. They had to pay a big deposit before bidding, and bring with them the means to haul away all the contents, so in case there was only worthless junk, they wouldn't walk away and leave it for the building owner to empty.

There was a really sad, haunting story about one unit. I'll type it in from memory if I have the time.

…and my posts referred to some, not all people.

Some have been foolish in their life decisions… but some had not.

Where is the love, the compassion, are we all animals ?

This beloved country of ours is hosed…

the entitlements have bankrupted our nation and made citizens slaves to it.

same as giving a junkie more free dope

I would pay to cart off a lot of the junk my wife has in storage.

Seems to me if you own more ‘stuff’ than fits in your home - then you are a ‘hoarder’.

Family heirlooms, treasures, antiques and valuables should not be ‘stored’ -they should be kept close at hand and insured along with the sofa and microwave.

Common sense is no longer common.

I have done storage auctions from time to time. Went to one last week. The new shows have screwed the whole thing up. There was twice the usually number of people bidding top dollar for three Christmas tress from WallyWorld and a box of lights. Crazy. BTW the $150,000 storage locker is very rare and about like hitting the lotto.

You *have* to have a convenient means to dispose of the *stuff*. Have you noticed the *personalities they are featuring in the show all have *junk shops. to unload the stuff that is not so valuable? It's an oscillating redundancy. Take some worthless stuff from one storage place and put in another place where *you * are responsible for its labor, rent and security....*again* LOL

In my locality, it doesn’t usually pay to go to these cuz the owners loot the good stuff from the units before putting them up for auction...

At these auctions the units don’t go cheap. My son went to one just for the heck of it, he won at a little over 400 dollars, but in the big cities its a lot more to buy one unit....he sells on ebay and just broke even....

ALL, Java4Jay here…

I started all this squawking with my original comments; so let me explain where I’m coming from…

Note my posts aren’t about people in general, was thinking outside the box.

SOME are irresponsible, borrowing the max on their homes instead of reducing principle.

SOME let greed control all their financial and social matters.

SOME are just pure lazy.

BUT… what about the ones who never got a break, their jobs were shipped overseas, wives with long disabling diseases, kids with issues. Not of their own doing, peoples whose lives had a major disruption. It’s in these people my compassion reaches out for.

Unable to pay the mortgage they downsize and put things in storage. Still unable to find gainful employment, they get behind in storage fees and are never able to catch up.

These type situations are not a small percentage of the storage owners business I’m sure.

I cherish ‘Capitalism’ it’s the best of the systems. But greed and corruption destroy it. If we followed the teachings in ALL our business affairs, this world would be a far better place.

So relax, give Thanks and enjoy the gifts He gives.

Merry Christmas !
