BOSTON (AP) -- As a former Massachusetts police chief heads to trial on manslaughter charges in the accidental shooting death of an 8-year-old boy at a gun fair, prosecutors and defense attorneys are wrangling over a horrific piece of evidence: a videotape of the shooting taken by the boy's father.
Former Pelham police Chief Edward Fleury is scheduled to go on trial next week in the 2008 death of Christopher Bizilj of Ashford, Conn. The boy was killed when he lost control of an Uzi at a gun fair and shot himself in the head.

I heard that Obama was caught in a off record remark that he wanted to disband the Corp....NO SILLY! He didn't say he wanted to disband the USMC...he wants to disband the Corpse!

Of course 8 year olds should handle fire arms. Single shot, bolt of lever action. No semi auto. Dad is standing behind him ensuring barrel control. No handguns only long barreled rifles. Auto? Semi auto? Pistols, revolvers or carbines no.

Scuttlebutt....I heard that Obama was caught in a off record remark that he wanted to disband the Corp...supposedly to be a breaking story in the NY Post tomorrow.... I've typed several replies and deleted them.
I hope the SOB doesn't try it.
The huge chunk of America that he just can't seem to connect with stop screwing over has a soft spot for their Marines.
His floundering administration will be throwing itself the anchor off of a CVN instead of a flotation device if he even floats a trial balloon in that direction.
Thanks Navy, for the warning.

It seems this one had a stock, and the muzzle still climbed 180 degrees.

Ye s their is a valid use for this thing. In my hands after extensive training with that particular weapon system I will be able to effectively defend myself or my property. A very effective side arm.

Its not easy to control a machine gun. Cant imagine letting an 8 year old do it. These geniuses forgot their Newtonian dynamics and thought that a cute little micro-Uzi would be just the ticket for a kid to shoot.
If they had given him a Tommy gun he'd still be alive.

And it was a Mini UZI, even harder to control than the full size.

First time I fired a 44 Magnum, I planted the hammer into my forehead.....having ignored pleas to use two hands OUCH! I watched Dirty Harry movies too often. ....nah, actually it came close though. I never used one hand again on that weapon.

Extensive training. Thank you.
To: Seven plus One
What extensive training means can vary. I have formal training on m16, m60, m249. For me extensive training means manipulating the weapon and carrying it around empty. Body stance etc are second nature to me. Most people grab a firearm and put body weight on back leg. Hence no barrel control. But for me an hour or so of familiarization then off to the range. If your a kid no. I don't let my kids handle anything but Long barrels, and one round at a time. They don't even hold the weapon until we talk about barrel discipline, where your trigger finger goes until sight picture is aquired, what is behind the target what is left and right of the target. Then stand like a shortstop legs spread and crouched weight on the front foot etc. In short, lots of coaching and lots of control. No “hoping for the best.”

Without further instruction or guidance from the line officer, the decedent placed his fingers on the trigger mechanism of the weapon and attempted to raise the Micro Uzi to his shoulder. The stock of the weapon slipped down from the decedents shoulder and the barrel of same spun upward. The decedent attempted to prevent the weapon from falling, and in doing so, the gun spun upward, From what is written above, it seems that the firearm was falling from the 8 year old's hands, stock first. It is an absolutely normal reaction at that age to keep the firearm from falling and striking the ground. As most people would normally do, the young boy pivoted at the waist to "catch" the firearm before it hit the ground, in doing so, his head moved forward so it was now "Over" the firearm. At the same time he tightened his grip on the part of the firearm that he had a hold of. Unfortunately, he was holding onto the grip and trigger of the weapon with enough strength to fire the weapon. A terrible accident and my heart goes out to all those involved.
However, had there been only one bullet in the Uzi, essentially turning it into a big, heavy, single shot pistol, the results would have been the same.
The prosecutor will demonize the weapon, but it's a red herring. The cause of this death was not the weapon, but poor control of a loaded weapon. The jury will have to decide on the responsible parties. Prayers to all involved.

Why are “they” going after anybody. Freemen have the liberty to make mistakes, sometimes fatal mistakes. Will charging everybody involved (a favorite pass time of Americans) going to keep the next knucklehead from being an idiot? No? Then is it just a need for vengeance? Pretty sure the mans son is dead and momma ain't to happy with him.
But if you argue that the State has an interest in the well being of the child you have just given up your soul to the nanny State. No end to that paradigm.

Little tiny SMGs are specialized weapons requiring specific training, and lots of practice to use safely, let alone effectively. Rifles and SAWs are designed from the get-go to be accessible to the infantryman with a standard training regimen for each. Sawed-off burp guns, however, even though they’re cute as a button are cumbersome, and super difficult to control in automatic fire without the accessories (supressors, slings, practical stocks) which make them as large as a standard smg, but still with the disadvantage of the high rate of fire. That’s why I think they are a hazard, unless handled by an expert in that genre. But then, I’m Mr. Squaresville when it comes to safety.
To: Seven plus One
I am squaresville also. My pistol training (informal) combined with my formal military training and mental range discipline tell me I can self train and research this type of weapon. It wouldn't take much to learn the safety basics. Tactical shotgun training is also specialized. But you can learn it through youtube and practical application of the drills if approached with discipline. I approach it with the step by step method the army teaches. It works. I can't afford formal training in everything I dabble in.
