Mercury affects the behaviour of white ibises by "turning them homosexual", with higher doses resulting in males being more likely to pair with males.
Scientists in Florida and Sri Lanka studied the effect of mercury in the birds' diet. Their aim was to find out why it reduced the ibises' breeding.
Mercury pollution can come from burning coal and waste, and run-off from mines.
The report, in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, shows that wetland birds are particularly badly affected by it.

Being a homosexual is NOT a mental illness NOR a choice but a “natural” condition deserving of every government enforced special privilege all the other politically correctly designated “victims.”
So this means homosexuality is an enviromental illness?
I went to a Queen concert at the Wheeling Civic Center back in the late 1970's. Best concert ever. That guy could really sing.
But why are they looking for environmental reasons for homosexuality? We’ve been told that it absolutely is a genetic trait.
What would happen if it was discovered that homosexuality is caused by exposure to mercury? Would the gay community be opposed to reducing mercury in the environment and possible testing and monitoring of blood levels? A similar situation has arisen in the deaf community. Cochlear Implants allow deaf people to hear again provided it is done when the child is a baby or toddler. Many in the deaf community are opposed to these because they want their children to remain in the deaf community. Some speculate that they dont want their numbers to go down which is quite possible and in fact is happening right now. These communities take on a life of their own and they want their numbers to increase not decrease. They dont want cures!
Aren’t those Al Gore light bulbs loaded with mercury? Hmmmm.....
I'm aware there have been some like that and hope their number is not many. But I think you're right about some of these loons. They want to be special and of a community of special people.
Use the Mercury containing CFL bulbs, take your flu shot which contains mercury compounds!
