Good for you, other than the overly-giddy house guests. That's one reason why I don't mind playing co-host at another relative's house: we may do a disproportionate amount of the primary meal prep and delivery, but we can beg off and get out of Dodge before the booze-fest really kicks in. LOL That's why it probably goes better than I expect.
We also made it a duty not to over-eat that early in the day, since I had a nice young gobbler with sage stuffing sitting in the pan and waiting for the oven when I got home. Eight hours later, the wife, our faithful dogs, and I had a nice little evening Thanksgiving meal of our own. This year, by forgoing the white wine baste and using sea salt, cracked pepper, chicken broth, and honey this time, the bird was even more lip-smacking than usual. And, like The Old Man in 'A Christmas Story', we have one Dachshund who is a turkeyholic. A bone-fide turkey junkie. He milled about the kitchen for two full hours before it was out, in sheer anticipation of that golden bird springing forth from its juicy enameled nest.
