No, not the ones that involve you and an illicit encounter via Craigslist -- New York's Attorney General is investigating 22 online retailers over their ties to three businesses accused of tricking consumers into paying hidden fees.

Web marketing companies Affinion, Vertrue and Webloyalty have been the subject of thousands of complaints.

.......

The companies getting subpoenas included Barnes & Noble, Orbitz, Buy.com, Ticketmaster, MovieTickets.com, FTC.com, Shutterfly, 1-800-Flowers.com, Avon, Budget, Staples, Priceline, GMAC Mortgage, Classmates.com, Travelocity, Vistaprint, Intelius, Hotwire, Expedia, Hotels.com, Columbia House, Pizza Hut and Gamestop/EB Games.

Charges just showed up my card from "Passport To Fun" and "Savings Ace". Both affiliated with Vertrue (from what I can google). Expedia was the only charge in the last month to that account. I'm PO'd!

If you use online travel booking, check your account for unsuspected charges. $19.95 for each in my case.

Please. These companies are AMAZING!

I get an extra $10-20 off, $100 GC for $80 to nice stores, and then cancel before the 30 days..

Read before you sign up and you would be good.

It’s just shakedown time in NY. Spitzer did it like an ATM machine. Pretend to fight for the little guy, agree to settle, and the big bad firm uses the little guy’s money to pay the settlement.
