Threatt glanced back at Pfc. Andrew Hooper, who stood about 20 yards away with a golf club in his hands.
Minutes earlier, Threatt had avoided another Marine's golf ball.
I might hit left, Pfc. Brandon Mead warned as Threatt walked farther behind Mead's ball.
Threatt, Hooper and Mead were three of about 150 Marines who traveled from Jacksonville to River Landing Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving. The event started four years ago when Robert, a Vietnam veteran, and Carol Steen invited 12 Marines to their River Landing home for the holiday, said Susan Johnson, spokeswoman for River Landing. This year, 30 families hosted Marines.
The Steens continued to organize the event each year with help of Camp Lejeune.
Good for both side!!
Just makes me wonder, is the Army not in this war? Don’t get me wrong, I worked with Marines in VN and love them all. However, all we hear about are the gallant achievements of the Marines (and they deserve every bit of praise they get). What about the other members of our armed forces?
Never hear about open houses welcoming members of the Army, Navy or other services doing their bit in Afghanistan, and Iraq. Just makes me wonder.
