Bishop of Willesden, must resign (Predicts William & Kate marriage lasts only 7 years)
Blogspot (hat tip First Things) ^ | 11-21-2010 | Archbishop Cranmer (nom de blog)

It is reported in The Mail on Sunday that Pete Broadbent, Bishop of Willesden, has prophesied that the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton will last just seven years.

That's precisely what the Established Church needs: generous, humble and optimistic shepherds of the sheep who set their minds on all that is noble, pure, lovely and of good report.

He really ought to read what the Bible has to say about soothsaying.....

Bishop Pete is a self-confessed republican. Apparently, when news of the Royal engagement was announced, he tweeted: ‘Need to work out what date in the spring or summer I should be booking my republican day trip to France.’

Being all with-it and media savvy, Pete has his Twitter feed directly linked to his Facebook, and this tweet elicited one of his friends to ask: “Isn’t the Queen your boss?”.

To which Bishop Pete replied: “I think you’ll find that God and the Bishop of London are my bosses. I am a citizen, not a subject!”

This is curious, and the Bishop is guilty of a gross hypocrisy.

All who are ordained into the Church of England swear an oath of allegiance. Bishop Pete has said:

“I, Peter Broadbent, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, her heirs and successors, according to law, so help me God.”

And so he became a curer of souls....

The Bishop seems to have peculiar views regarding vows. In fact, he seems to see them all as hollow & meaningless. Of course, in his own case, that's OK, shows independence and free thinking, don't you know?

But others who break (or who MIGHT break) their vows are worthy of scorn and derision.

Typical, liberal, double standard.

I thought Freepers might find this interesting, annoying of course, but also interesting.

I just read this one post, so I have no idea about the rest of the Archbishop's views. I hope they are not dreadful, but this real life bishop seems so awful, and yet so self-regarding, I thought it was worth it to hold him up for a little discussion here.

The Church of England has such a wild collection of bishops that it is hard to imagine what possible rules they could have.

If you haven’t read the views of Archbishop Cranmer, you should have a look at his blog. He’s an authentic conservative in a very hostile outpost of a crumbling edge of Anglo-civilization.

People who ridicule others wedding vows deserve scorn themselves.

When me and my wife discuss such matters we laugh. We were married as 19 and 20 year olds. I know there were a lot of talk about how long it would last especially with me coming from a broken home and my parents before me.

This December will be 17 years.

“This December will be 17 years.”

Congrats!

What day did you get married? My brother’s birthday is the 16th.

I always wanted to get married in December and wear a pearl grey velvet suit.

But, I’ve already had 2 weddings (to the same fellow, so, we get looked at funny too!) one in October and one in March (on the first day of spring when we got re-married in Vegas, LOL, the day was just a co-incidence but things were busy there that day!) so I think my old day dream will stay that way.

“He’s an authentic conservative...”

I went back to the blog after posting this and checked it out a bit. He is very good. He’s won a lot of awards too!

He’s funny in that he even “blurbs” some negative quotes about him from big lefties.

And I guess that bishop got punished by the London bishop (archbishop?) but then the Archbishop of Canterbury thought the punishment was too harsh, then I just gave up following that.

I don’t know how ANYONE has the energy to be an Anglican, I really don’t.

I just had the 17th anniversary of a wedding that no one we knew thought would last.

It is a very broad church, which is both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness.
