Seeger is the worst piece of trash ever. He was and is a major Joe Stalin apologist. Pat Buchanan and others laid it out in a lot of detail. For example, Seeger wrote a song praising Stalin and Hitler when they sign their non aggression pact. He wrote it shortly before Hitler invaded Russia and then re-wrote it.
A large part of folk music is commie music for union types. This land is your land - might as well be Obama’s ode. It is all about collectivism.

For all Woddy’s faults - he was less of a commie than Seeger. When Stalin was starving 6 million Ukrainians - Seeger was writing odes to Stalin and Walter Duranty was getting Pulitzer prizes for his work at The NY Times for fawning over Stalin. Duraty, Seeger and the NY Slimes knew what was really going on.

Thanks for the info. I stand corrected. My guess is as a boy Arlo may have seen what scum his dad’s pal Pete Seeger is. Woody was less of a lefty than Seeger. Seeger is filth.
If I recall correctly, Arlo was interviewed at his farm/ranch.
My best guess as to what converted Arlo is this: He worked hard, saved his money to buy the farm, and now realizes that the socialist agenda is to take the farm away from him and give it to a welfare bum.
Arlo is a registered Republican.
Had the pleasure of seeing Arlo, John Prine and David Bromberg in concert together, fantastic show.

I grew up in Stockbridge and was stopped for speeding by Obie right in front of my father's office window, but he let me off with a warning and suggestion that if I wanted to speed I should go out on the MA Turnpike and not do it around town. (I ignored his advice and had my license revoked for speeding in the next town to the south, Great Barrington)
Remember that laugh line in the song and movie after Obie took away Arlo’s belt in the lockup and said “We don't want anyone hanging themselves”? The sad truth is that one year before Arlo’s arrest Obie's own 15-year-old son took his own life by hanging himself.

It’s a song! A song many people enjoy.
Not every instance in life is an attack against you.
I sell books online, and have sold a couple of copies of the Aices Restuarant Cookbook. It was published around the time that the song came out. From Arlo Guthries song, you might have thought Alice’s recipes would have been of the macrobiotic/vegetarian/whole grain hippy style offerings. In actuality it was full of stick to your ribs, traditional recipes, heavy on beef and chicken, and other meats, and not heart healthy. Many of the recipes called for heavy cream, lots of butter, and good amounts of salt.
