Sarah Palin seems to be the favorite of the majority of Free Republic members. I still have not made up my mind about her. But if she is the consevative movement's choice to take on the disaster of Obama who has gone from The Messiah to the Mess then there are things that she will need to overcome to get 50% plus one of the American people's vote in 2012. I've listed the ones I hope her supporters can address here because failure to take these issues on will result in certain defeat.

No, I haven't.
I agree with you on how dictatorship would begin. I disagree on how "easily" opposition could be eliminated.
We are neither "few," nor without "resources."
“They will? You sure have alot of confidence in Obama. Why did his party do so poorly in the mid-terms?”
Not in NY, NV or CA. They have the biggest problems but they voted for the people who created the mess. Why were they so picky of the GOP alternative? Was Whitman so terrible and Jerry Brown so compelling and perfect in every way? No. They think Obama will bail them out.
“Obama will be the incumbent in ‘12, not Republicans. Explain to me why independents would favor Obama over Palin in ‘12. “
They won’t vote for Obama but that doesn’t mean they’ll vote for Palin. They could sit out or vote for Bloomberg or Trump and Obama will win.
You’re right about the party numbers, but the Gallup numbers are pretty stable 40 Conservative / 40 Moderate / 20 Liberal.
There are more Conseratives than Democrats. More Democrats than Republicans. More Republicans than Liberals.
The Democrats may put up an Obama or Hillary but they are a party run by a few white men for the benefit of a few white men.
At some point, if she decides to run, she will have hard-hitting opponents — opponents who are, even now, digging into her background to find whatever they can use against her.

The Obama campaign was playing patty-cake? Palin is completely vetted.
She saw her opportunities and she made the most of them. It may be the only useful thing McCain has done in many years.
While that's not the purpose of this thread ... and while I am the most conservative person I have ever personally known ... Your question sounds like fun so here goes:
1-He has been the victim of a racist political elite that seeks to thwart a new and positive direction for America. Don't let them win. Let me finish the job, bring a new hope to America, that you elected me to do.
2-He alone saved the world from depression through rapid and massive government economic action.
3-Only he can bridge the gap of political and economicdifferences that divide America from our European friends.
4-He has prevented major domestic terror attacks through seeking to understand the Muslim world's concerns rather than confront them.
5-Don't let the Wall Street fat cats win. Wall Street doesn't care about you. Wall Street finances Republicans. Republicans don't care about you.
Off the top of my head ...
“Do you think that Californias educational system should be emulated by the rest of the nation?”
Their standards should be emulated but not their attitude towards illegals.
Don’t just look at the rating and take their word for it. Look at the reviews for yourself. For example, the use of calculators is included in the Alaskan math standards for grades 1-6. High school students are expected to use graphing calculators for simple functions such as quadratic equations. It’s really bad!
In the immortal words of FEZ from That 70s Show ... "I said good day!"
Top 5 Reasons for Independents Will Vote for Palin:
1) Party politics has gone off-track. They cynically lie and continue doing what has got us this mess. Palin is independent of party and is attacked often by her own.
2) Obama is a disaster and we will be broke if we re-elect him.
3) Palin took on corruption and won in Alaska.
4) We’ve seen Palin’s life, family, and record. We know her.
5) The main stream media is part of the group that is manipulating this society for the benefit of the extremely wealthy. Bailouts for billionaires. Palin is for the middle class. They’ve lied about her and her record and made grossly unfair attacks. Instead of being a victim she fought and won.
Great suggestion. Won't happen under this administration, though.
If Palin win nomination, I think she may be forced to pick the runner up as her VP, kinda like Reagan/Bush. She will need the establishment’s vote. They represent maybe the 11% that she need to take her over the 51%
Are you insane?
Who the hell knew WHY we were learning to solve quadratic equations before graphing calculators made the connection between algebra and geometry, explicit?
General standards in education just lead to teaching to the test. My daughter is in Kindergarten and they are doing timed reading, not because it is good for teaching reading in Kindergarten or is age appropriate, but to help prepare for a test in 3rd grade.
I think there is a disconnect in the minds of most Americans. They are so ignorant regarding politics that they don't understand that being a democrat is essentially the same as being a liberal. When questioned about specific policies they tend to be more conservative in out look but they nevertheless vote Democratic because after all the Democrats are the party of the caring and support for the underdog while Republicans are the party of the rich, greedy and uncaring.
The challenge is to have a candidate that can communicate effectively in the last 30 days, how their presidency will benefit THEM.
Romney is not a conservative. He is not a bobdole, either, or a McCain. I believe he will not spend half his campaign promoting the Democrat candidate. Romney is most like Nixon. He has possibly the right idea about where the country should be but he is a Keynesian and thinks the government needs to be bigger so that the government can ordain liberty and construct an expert driven facsimile of a free market. His goal is due west but he insists on driving northeastward to get there. The conservative candidate must be pro limiting, even shrinking government. Romney is not. He must have a history of consistent small government and free market decisions. Romney’s history is quite opposite of that ideal. Saying that RomneyCare was a mistake that he won’t repeat only shows that he has no understanding of what a free society requires in the first place. He may not repeat the healthcare fiasco but he has no philosophical basis for not making the same sort of “mistake” in other areas. He is, like most dynamic personalities of either party, an economic ignoramus and he has no overall philosophy to point him in the right direction.
Bottom line she can over come all of that but she is going to have to be armed and ready to meet all that head on plus have a serious set of ideas dealing with todays most pressing problems. The economy, security of our nation (War on Terror), illegal immigration, the deficit, spending, monetary policy, and foreign policy are the issues that she has to be ready to deal with and answer with specifics. She cant broad brush it and get away it. She will have show she has a game plan and be very clear on how she thinks this issues need to be handled using the founding fathers constitutional frame of reference.
The press is going to be doubly hard on her so looking for friends there is not an option. They are going to zero in on every misstep. If she goes on FOX or where ever she needs to be ready for the grilling of her life every time while driving home the conservative message and be able to focus on how to solved the problems and present a positive outlook that America has faced far worst and overcome it. She will have to promote the idea that it will be the American people that can solve these problems if she will get the government out of the way.
When she does interviews she needs to go in there like a Screaming Dive Bomber and nail each question and frame the debate in a conservative point of view right out of the gate. She needs to hit Katie Curric and Chris Matthews first and demolish them right off the bat as far as interviews goes. Sarah will have to deal with them sooner or later so she needs to make a strong showing by hitting them head on first to shake off the negativity of the former interview, if she doesnt the press will spin it that she is avoiding and afraid, because if she cant handle those two, democratic talking points drones, then she is not going to be able to get her message out in any effective way to the American people.
When comes time to debate she will have to be a heavy hitter. The more debates the better because when it gets to prime time she is going to have to be ready to very poignantly articulate her agenda and aggressively point out the glaring differences between her and her opponent. The more experience the better she will be able to handle the questions and be ready to respond to the ideas and charges of her opponent. The quicker she is thinking on her feet in these the better she will be perceived.
She might have met the requirements for those that support her right now and saw her as a diamond in the rough when she was picked for the VP spot but she will need to do it all over again to get the support of the majority of the nation to win the presidency.
She can overcome all you have put up there. Is the bar going to be set higher for her? Yes but if she is going to be President of The United States of America it should be high and she should be able to hurdle it. Barry and Co will think it is in the bag so the bar will be even lower for him than it was last time. If Sarah can handle the hardness of the primaries and the press she should mop the floor with BO. If she can convey the conservative message of limited government, lower taxes, a capitalistic free market, and a strong national security for our country to the American people she has a really good shot at being the next president if she decides to run.
Thanks for your contribution.
Your point #1 is valuable ... She's an outsider.
#2 I think most independents not politically savy don't understand this and Obama will argue it would be worse but for his intervention.
#3-5 I think the independent voter, unconcerned about politics until the last 30 days, just won't care about these.
Right now that is true. Right now.
I feel kind of the same way, but if she is the one carrying the conservative banner then she is My Candidate. Perceptions of her running for it now do seem to have the effect of pushing the whole scene rightwards, though.
