How Does Palin Overcome These Issues To Win Presidency?
Vanity ^ | 11/24/2010 | Patrick1

Sarah Palin seems to be the favorite of the majority of Free Republic members. I still have not made up my mind about her. But if she is the consevative movement's choice to take on the disaster of Obama who has gone from The Messiah to the Mess then there are things that she will need to overcome to get 50% plus one of the American people's vote in 2012. I've listed the ones I hope her supporters can address here because failure to take these issues on will result in certain defeat.

She’s been vetted by her action as AK gov and mayor. Debates would be meaningless if she only say what we want to hear in the debates. We look at action, not words

Romney is a very slick and savvy debater. But even Teddy could see through him. He’s not pro-life or pro-choice. He’s multiple-choice.

What are the top ten (I'll settle for five) reasons that an independent voter will be attracted to the candidacy of Sarah Palin?

Reducing the deficit.

Shrinking the massive government expansion of Obama.

Repeal Obama-care.

Lower taxes.

Stop the madness of strip-searching 3 year olds at airports.

Oh really?!

Yeah, really. You indicated your disingenuousness with these four words: "...for no good reason."

That's the posture of a prosecutor, not a fair-minded investigator.

If your favorite "electable" is waiting until election season and letting others take the slings and arrows, then they are no leader, however electable you might think they are.

It's rare that I can post qnything on FR without someone saying I have candidate I support. I don't care which Republican wins the presidency as long as it IS a Republican AND a TRUE conservative.

Furthermore, I understand the concept of winning the hearts and minds of independents. You are on this thread because you are interested in politics. I don't know if you're old enough to remember, but Reagan did it well in 1980. The biggest challenge in this regard is that no conservative spokesperson with the plain spoken ability similar to "The Great Communicator" has been revealed. New Jersey's Christie may have that gift but I'm not convinced of his conservative ideals yet. Plus he's probably too new for 2012. Probably 50% of the people who will vote in the 2012 election won't even begin to pay attention until the last 30 days prior and they will be heavily influenced by the MSM. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively.

In addition, you recommend that I not get hung up on a Palin candidacy. HELLO! That's the subject of this thread. I'm asking for information that is consistent to the theme of the thread. Sadly no one has offerred any salient input.

I guess I'll have to do the research myself. Dang it.

Except you don’t discuss. You make snarky, smarmy remarks. Like you do on every other Palin thread. What’s the point? You aren’t going to change your opinion or any else’s? It gets incredibly old after a while, especially since plenty of others are trying to have a serious discussion.

I see the TSA enhanced security measures as the beginning of breaking the American morale to be submissive to all the government asks in the name of 'anti-terror'.

Nah, that's us operating on their ground. Doesn't mean anything until they come out of their fortifications and force us into submission on OUR ground.

“She’s been vetted by her action as AK gov and mayor.”

For starters:
1) she raised the sales tax to pay for a sports complex as mayor. Ended up over-budget with a lot of debt.
2) As governor, she supported the Law of the Sea treaty which gives over sovereignty to the UN
3) she raised taxes on energy companies and endorsed the idea of a cap on carbon emissions to deal with global warming even before McCain picked her (maybe that is why he did)
4) Alaska’s educational system is one of the worst in the country.
5) supports Title IX and other feminist pay-equality laws
6) supports a path to citizenship for ‘undocumented immigrants’

A good start. But not enough.
I’m thinking more about positions and policies.

Winning the presidency will not be easy for Sarah but she has a great shot at it. She’ll make history and she’ll be the first major candidate in a long time to call out the media from the debate podium. That alone warrants a run in my book. She’ll stand on principle and be good for conservatives and bad for Obama and liberals.

The people crying and wringing their hands are saying “we need someone who can win”...well, Sarah can win and NO MORE BOB DOLES. (Sorry Bob).

By all means, do your own research.

There is one primary reason people like Palin. She fights.

There is a short list of people who were effective in stopping Obama, and a short list of people who were effective in bringing about the electoral victory earlier this month, and she is on that list. That is why people like her, and DeMint, and Bachmann, and Bolton, and a very few others. And that is why people don’t like some of the bigger names who were no where to be seen. Its really not that hard to understand.

Now, when you make your decision who you are going to support, it shouldn’t be that difficult. The list of people who have effectively defended conservative principles since Obama took office has been a pretty short list.

Another thing you’ll notice; among the fighters, none of them spend any time attacking one another, and by and large their supporters don’t spend any time attacking the others on the list. DeMint people don’t attack Bachmann people, and Bachmann people don’t attack Palin people. For the most part, they are all the same people anyway, and their primary focus at this stage is still stopping Obama, and not stopping one another.

Let Palin be Palin, and let DeMint be DeMint, and so on with all the rest. Palin has been very effective at rallying the rank and file against Obama. Will she be as effective once she transitions to “candidate”? That will be obvious when the time comes. For now, its enough that she continues to defend the things we believe in, in whatever way she has at her disposal. And DeMint, and Bachmann, and hey, anyone else who wants to get into the game. The field is wide open. The work is great and the workers are few.

Yes, she could very well win the Republican nomination...but she still has a way to go yet to win the Presidency...only because the American people are very fickle. The assults continue and run like a cesspool against her...these she must overcome in the eyes of the public. MSM will not be kind in the least to her and they know they can sway public opinion...nor will they be kind to her family as we have seen. Not sure Palin will lay down her family for the Presidency when all is considered. I think if she feels the cost to her family may be too much she will not run....and why they will indeed attack her family. We have yet to see how nasty they will be.
