I agree with you.
If JFK had lived to a ripe old age, he'd probably be remembered as one of the most overrated public officials and mediocre U.S. presidents in the post-WW2 era. He wasn't in office long enough to accomplish anything noteworthy, and over the nearly 50 years that has passed since his death we've learned that he was really nothing more than a media construct.
