US’s leading pizza chain to open first store in VN Domino’s Pizza, the second-largest pizza chain in the United States, has announced the opening of its first store in Vietnam, in the country's largest city, Ho Chi Minh City.

In an announcement on November 19, the company's Finance Chief Michael Lawton recognised Vietnam as a growing economy. He said Domino's had made forays into four new countries this year with the others being Germany, Romania and Ukraine.

"Opening our first store in the largest city in Vietnam gives us an excellent entryway into this growing economy," said Lawton.

"We are very excited that Domino's Pizza, the global leader in pizza delivery, is now in Vietnam and we look forward to providing that same level of service that our customers expect from this global brand.", said Tony Cricenti, Chief Executive Officer of Domino’s Pizza in Vietnam.

Founded in 1960, Domino's Pizza operates a network of 9,169 franchised and company-owned stores in the United States and 66 markets worldwide. The Domino's Pizza brand had global retail sales of over US$5.6 billion in 2009, comprised of nearly US$3.1 billion domestically and over US$2.5 billion internationally.

During the third quarter of 2010, the company had global retail sales of nearly US$1.4 billion, comprised of over US$747 million domestically and nearly US$650 million internationally.

When are they coming to Russia? I know Domino's sucks, but it would be an improvement over what is available here...

Kind of the reverse of a porno movie where the pizza guy gets paid in Dong.

I don't buy anything made in VN (yes, I check everything these days) and now I don't buy Dominos. It should be another twenty years or so before we cozy up with VN because if people like me are still alive so are those who killed so many friends of mine. Their kids and grand-kids, fine, but not yet.

JMHO

PS - I don't buy things made in a Mooslim country, either.

"Domino's sucks"

The worst pizza I ever had was at a Domino's. No wait, Chucky Cheese pizza might have been worse. So I guess Chucky Cheese would be an improvement for those countries as well. Gack, what a disgusting thought.

A few years ago I worked in a lab with a dozen or so foreign grad students, one of whom was Vietnamese. He was the most pro-American of the bunch. I mean he loved this place, loved Americans, and was no fan of the communist regime back home. And he said he was hardly unique. If his sentiment is anything like typical over there, then Vietnam represents a huge opportunity for us. One important factor to keep in mind is that they dislike the Chinese. They see the US as a counterbalance to Chinese influence.
