Authorities in Alabama are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy who was attacked in his yard by a pack of up to a dozen dogs....
The child was home with a babysitter in Phenix City, Alabama, Monday afternoon when he darted outside into the fenced yard and was attacked, Taylor said.
Animal control investigators determined 12 dogs were involved, but it was not clear how many of them bit the boy.
One of the dogs involved belonged to the boy's family, Taylor said. The 11 others belonged to neighbors and apparently slipped under the fence, he said.
Taylor said the dogs were from mixed breeds, and none of them were pit bulls.

I had a feral cat take up in my garage one winter and it was so full of stuff I couldn't catch it...so I started to put milk out for it and then progressed to cat food. After a bout a week, it let me approach it but not touch it...That cat was scrawny, had runny eyes and looked sick as can be..I wanted to get it to the vet cause I let my dog out via the garage door...
I was able to grab it one time and had forgotten to put on my leather gloves. Grabbed it from behind the front legs and it still was able to put its head down and latch onto my pointer finger. It didn't let go until I threw it in the box I had waiting for when I caught it...
Vet said with a bite to take it too the animal shelter in the near by town...By the time I got to town, the bite was still oozing blood and the finger swollen...The public health department called me and said to get to the doctor within 72 hours and of course it was on a saturday...
Got an emergency appointment with the doctor monday and by then I was shocked that my whole hand except the pinky and thumb was swollen big time...(took all the old wrinkles out of my hand :O)
The doctor put me on antibiotics for 10 days and said cat bites can be worse than dog bites because their teeth can actually go into the bone and leave a nasty bone infection. I did get a shot along with the prescription...
They kept the cat for 10 days to see if it had rabies, but was notified by the health department that no rabies but they did euthanize it and sent the head to Lansing for testing...
Hope you went to the doctor just in case after the bites. Those bites can be as bad as stepping on a rusty nail..
Yeah, cat bites are nasty. My grandmother got an infection from being bitten one of her strays (she fed every cat around the neighborhood, plus her own that would come and go as they pleased). Those little teeth are like needles.
As for my attack, yes, I had a series of rabies shots, as well as x-rays of my hand and arm just in case. Unfortunately, I was unable to catch the dogs, and animal control never came, even though they called me to ask about the dogs. I told them the dogs were a nuisance and obviously dangerous, and I even gave them the address of where I usually see them, but nothing was ever done. Sometimes when I go jogging through that neighborhood, I see one or two of them. They are mean and very brave. I would hate to see what happens if they get a hold of a child, but hey, our city is “no kill” now, so they don’t pick up strays anymore! If I thought I could get rid of them, I would, but they are too fast and too mean to handle.
I have noticed a black and white cat that walks thought my back yard occasionally, but out in the country people let cats roam and I think it is keeping the mouse population down in the barn....and its fine as long as it doesn't take up residence in my garage.. But some cats go feral quite fast
PS are the rabies shots as painful as they use to be? Just wondering..
Perhaps the guy that got bite could take the dog our for some more training and oops, just shot it by mistake...
Same in Michigan but it has to be hoofed animals...had a neighbor that shot another neighbors dog while it was in his turkey pen, killing turkeys. The neighbor saw it and it cost him 2000 dollars...turkeys are not hoofed animals...too bad the owner saw him shoot it...Its best to shoot, shovel and shut up...
Have had words with a couple of those people you talk about here on FR, they don't have the capacity to understand or learn...so some just don't get an answer to what they post...they are of the opinion that the whole world is for their little sweetie pie..
You were lucky with that pack....you survived your childhood to become a Freeper....it was meant to be.:O)
LOL...I survived to become SOMETHING! Funny, I have always been amazed at my good fortune. I was such an accident prone person for so many years, but hey, I made it!
“PS are the rabies shots as painful as they use to be? Just wondering..”>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
They don’t do them in the stomach anymore, which I guess is good, but for every puncture wound, they have to give a shot directly in the wound, plus a shot in the backside. I had at least six puncture wounds, and the shots in the wounds weren’t that bad (most of the wounds were large enough that I didn’t feel the needle go in), but the one on the backside hurt like crazy. Of course, you have to go back three times, but those aren’t as numerous or as painful as the first.
Yikes, you were a human pin cushion. Glad your still with us...:O)
