In tribal societies, people can be named for their occupation — John Wheelwright, James Smith, Scott Cooper. In the modern tribal society, in which no one has an occupation, people can be named for distinguishing physical characterics: Gold Teeth, Mumbles, or Doofus.

The mayor of Boston is Mumbles J. Menino, so I guess Boston is an ubermodern tribal society.

People wonder how mafia criminals get their weird names -- but often they are direct translations of an Italian name into English. For instance: Giuseppe Vongole = "Joey Clams."

I often thought about that and wondered how the family name 'Killwife' survived.

I guess it was just a matter of timing.
