Upthread you’ll find FReepers far smarter than I commenting on the ways and means this FB thingie affects our computers.
All I know is that Free Republic takes so much longer to load because of the facebook plugins.
I know there are advantages to sharing and linking with various social media sites. But Facebook does not have a good reputation, as far as I’m concerned.

I’m testing the link to see if we can gain new membership. They do not pay me. I do not pay them. But our facebook freeper members can easily use this button to post excerpts and links with one click from our threads to facebook and then all of their friends on facebook can then be exposed to and invited to try FR.
If I decide it’s worthwhile I’ll expand on it. If not I’ll just drop it.
