Lance Cpl. Terry Honeycutt, a 19-year-old, was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan in late October. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at New Life Church in La Plata. Phelps-Roper said she plans to picket from 9:15 a.m. to the start of the service with a group of six to seven members of the Westboro Baptist Church.

The Honeycutt family was made aware of the planned protest via Facebook on Friday, but Terry’s mother Christine is not concerned about the picketers.

“We kind of expected it,” she said. “We’ve seen it before and read about, as a military family, these people go all over the country to funerals of fallen soldiers.”

A .pdf flyer issued by WBC says they will also be at Arlington Cemetery.

A contingent of homeschoolers from Herndon/Reston area are intent upon being there to act as human shields and pay respects to the family. If anyone wants to join us....we will be near the front gate whether WBC is there or not. LaPlata is too far for us, but Arlington is reachable. Patriot Guard will also be accompanying the family.

I hope all those in or near Charles County, Maryland can be there to support the family through the service and that those in Virginia or DC can make it to Arlington Cemetery to support them. I’m surprised that thousands of people don’t show up wherever these freaks surface. They are disgusting, and not like any Baptists I’ve ever known.

We stood where we were told any protester who showed up would have to stand, so they would have had to stand behind us. They never showed up. There were others on the other side of Memorial Drive with more signs and flags to honor and show respect for our newly fallen hero...and the Patriot Guard were simply amazing! There were so many motorcycles in that procession, cops, fire engines, even a huge dump truck, and I swear looked like hundreds and hundreds of cars followed. I'd post a picture, but don't know how to do that on this system. We were four homeschool families with lots of kids and flags, and the people in the cars waved and us and took pictures of us!

We had a report that when Westboro showed up at the church, they couldn't get near, because there were nearly a thousand standing 3 or more deep all the way up the street, and they had to stand in a gas station.

Another report I saw on twitter said that when they went to Woodbridge High School, they were met by at least 200 counter protesters. Word is getting around, and folks just aren't tolerating these jerks anymore.

We all sniffled and teared up when the procession finally got to Memorial Drive. It was impressive, and moving. A good lesson to all these homeschool kids.
