After rain affected the previous three Grands Prix, the drivers could be forgiven for thinking they would be basking in sunshine in Abu Dhabi for the final weekend of the season. But the rain appears to have followed the F1 teams to the desert with light showers falling on Tuesday and Wednesday - so rare is precipitation in that part of the world that it made the local news. More rain is forecast over the weekend, although race day looks sunny.

Rain in Abu Dhabi? wow
maybe help make horsepower though
Sounds like fun, I like hot saunas.. hold the sand tho. :-)
I spent a month in Jeddah a long time ago,, nice and dry but great views of the Red Sea.
Last race of the season, but I think I’ll post this little ‘heads up’ advice again.
formula1.com allows you to view in real time the official timing monitor (follow the ‘live timing’ link - these days you have to register first, but it’s still free).
I like to have this screen up on my laptop while watching the sessions on a second monitor (or TV or whatever you’re using). It also provides a load of other information. Just explore it a bit. Great to have the info for the full field when the TV feed only shows bits and pieces (the front runners, mostly).
This Sunday I think I’ll go and watch the race on a big screen at a local sports bar with a few friends, though.
Formula 1 drivers are well-versed in the use of extreme measures in the pursuit of speed but Fernando Alonso, the 2010 championship leader, has taken things a stride further by having his legs waxed. "I'm surprised how he was able to take the pain," said Hamilton. "Mark [Webber] pointed it out and was asking: 'How far has it gone up?' I was like: 'Wow, they are shiny.'"

The word from the Spanish journalists is that the Ferrari simulator says the Red Bull will be 0.4 seconds quicker a lap at Abu Dhabi than the Ferrari. Might account for Alonso's tetchy mood and picked cuticles?!

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton will both miss next week's Pirelli tyre test in Abu Dhabi, with McLaren the only front-running team that will not use a current race driver for the two-day run.

Felipe Massa is confident that his difficult 2010 season will prove to be just a blip in his career, and says this year's form does not necessarily mean he will be overshadowed by team-mate Fernando Alonso again in 2011.

Former FIA president Max Mosley says there is "no doubt that this championship will be devalued if Alonso wins and the points obtained by breaking the rules on team orders define the final result". (The Times)
If Fernando Alonso prevails on Sunday by seven points or fewer, the knives will come out for the Spaniard and his team. It would be a shame indeed were that to be the case. Alonso has driven brilliantly since mid-season.

Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber have been given the blessing of Bernie Ecclestone to use team orders to defeat Fernando Alonso in the title showdown - as long as it is not done Ferrari-style.

Fiat has bought back a 5% stake in Ferrari that was sold five years ago to Abu Dhabi investment company Mubadala. It is believed the move ties in with recent rumours that the Italian carmaker is considering later selling a significant part of its majority stake in the famous Maranello-based F1 team team. The buy-back takes Fiat's shareholding up to 90%.
