That is a very good question. First I would like verification that they did seize it. I have only seen one unsourced post say that it was. Assuming it was it clearly says they have doubts and want to examine it closely. If they have doubts that says a lot of things. Some very worrisome.
Something did catch my eye when looking at still pics on the CBS site—the last pic, I think #13, has captured a blue line appearing to be in the same trajectory as the “contrail.” What is that?
I saw that and I don't know. One FReeper has a theory about it here and has been asked to clarify some points about it here. No reply so far.

Only very roughly if at all. There are too many unknowns. Primarily the exact position of the line in the sky assuming it can be reasonably established that it is a remnant of the flight. Position and angle of the camera that took the pic.

That some people here still believe it was an eastbound jet (when the government that they trust for virtually nothing else is the only source of this fabrication!) is beyond irrational. Lt. General McInerny says "...definitely a missile..." and it's "just another opinion."

Flight Tracker is not the government. The data is there, the US flight was there, it landed in PHX about an hour after this, that is a fact, there is no gray area on that.
I notice that no one has an answer for the lack of an ionized gas cloud that would be there if it was a rocket. I notice that no one has an answer for no one N or S of where the contrail was has reported it.
Contrails happen, weather happens, optical illusions happen, there was no missile and there is not one scintilla of proof from any one that there was a missile, versus a whole pile of factual data showing that it was an airliner.
I have the perspective down very well. Enjoy your tin foil and your childish insults.

Relatively close? Out West, you can see mountains from the highway for 50 or even more miles depending on the location and the height of the mountain.
Looking out at the 'flat' ocean from the beach with the curvature of the earth, the horizon is something less than 10 miles away. A passenger jet covers 10 miles in 2 or 3 minutes.
Seeing contrails like that is not at all unusual.

Where is your proof that there was a F-16 scrambled? Got documentation? I’ve flown from Hawaii to PHX about 50 times, in 757-200 aircraft we come back along that exact path every time.
I worked in the industry have seen dozens of contrails that look just like that. Again, answer me this: Why no ionized gas cloud? In an actual launch there is a glowing gas cloud, easily visible after sunset. Where are the reports of this?
Also, there were many aircraft in the area with LAX, ONT, SNA, LGB and BUR, where are the pilots reporting this launch?

Yes. As compared to the distance of a normal horizon. Ever been in the city of Palm Springs about 1 to 2 hours before sunset ?
The F-16 is visible coming in, at altitude, from the right of the video at 46 seconds. Slope.
