Need some FReeper help!
Self ^ | 11/09/2010 | PhilStone

I have just finished a 65,000 word manuscript and am looking for a conservative book agent. Unfortunately, most literary (non-fiction) agents tend to be lefties.

Just wondering if any FReepers have had experience with book publishing and can suggest any literary agents who enjoy working with conservative authors.

I'm afraid that I can't say more about my manuscript simply because I have been somewhat more outspoken here on FR than might be good for future book sales.

I'm not asking for a personal recommendation, simply the names of anyone that you might have worked with to publish a book that isn't a complete lefty loon. Feel free to FReepmail me if you prefer to remain anonymous.

Thanks for the help!

Phil

It may come to that, but I’m going to try the traditional route first. Congrats on your success. I have 15 years of publishing experience (not my stuff though) so I know how self-publishing works. Just wanna give traditional a chance.

Unfortunately, I live in an extremely blue area (think San Fran metro) and don’t have a lot of opportunity to “out” my conservatism.

Yes, taught public speaking. Gorgeous I don’t know (not as pretty as Sarah Palin, that’s for sure. Probably not as pretty as Sean Hannity either though in better shape than Rush!) Credentials yes. Can get blurbs from Mark Steyn and Jonah Goldberg (who I’m pinging tomorrow). Lot’s of time in on communications and marketing. Just trying to narrow down the agent search a little.

My very best wishes to you for your huge success, (especially since you are a conservative author, wishing to publish a conservative work in a very delusional liberal world.

Well, excuse me. I can only comment on what I read. Sorry if what I respond to is gleaned from what I read. As far as calming down ... I think you should take a dose of your own prescribed medicine.

Please specify which subject area ? Non-fiction covers a lot of ground.

I am self published, and used Lightning Source for Print on Demand. Converted the MS Word manuscript to PDF, set it up appropriately for the format (Trade Papaerback and then later, hardback) and got it out there.

If you can get a following, you make significantly more profit through self publishing on each book sold. I have sold maybe 20,000 of the Dragon's Fury Series, and maybe 5,000 of the Stand at Klamath Falls.

Dragon's Fury: World War against America and the West

The Stand at Klamath Falls: How rural western farmers stood up against entrenched environmentalists and agencies of the Federal Government...and prevailed!"

Then I simply talked about it with family, friends, and neighbors, and linked to it on forums, Facebook, my own site, etc.

I also give away the e-book for each and ask people to buy it if they like it.

Alas, apparently they are not taking on new clients according to their website. Thank you for the link though.
