I find it odd that the Pentagon didn't just say it's a classified launch and that is it. Done deal. They didn't. They chose the Huh? scenario.

Apparently they know that the risk of being contradicted and exposed as lying is very real.

Isn’t lying to the press considered a career ending offense for the military?

I am not sure about this, but do know that lying gets one booted out of the academies, but not sure about ROTC.

Obfuscation might be tolerated in the name of not frightening the sheep, however.

Really do not know if the officers are allowed to lie. Does anyone here know?
