Attention techies. Do DVD recorders allow you to record from a cable's DVR recorder? (vanity)

I'm interested in buying a DVD recorder. My main reason is to allow me to record certain programming for easy reference. After recording a program on my cable company's DVR and it's saved, you get the options, and one of those options is "record to VCR"....are there DVD recorders out there that allow you to record SAVED DVR programs? The reason I ask is you get people saying it's difficult because most DVD recorders don't have tuners. That's not my problem, or inquire, I don't want to record "live" broadcasts, just the ones I've saved digitally on the cable DVR.

Yes we did know it has to stay on the terrabyte. But it’s still incredibly convenient. Lots of movies are on at inconvenient times so we just record and store. Seems we always have something we feel like watching and no DVD’s or BluRays to pop in and out. Sometimes we are just so lazy :))

Before I upgraded to HD I was able to put a DVD/VCR player/recorder in between my satelite DVR reciever and TV, connected via coax.

Be careful, be very careful. Do research, research and research, but in the end be careful about the product model numbers. They can seem the same but one little letter can eliminate a feature you had seen on ever other one with an ‘almost’ exact number. And the HD symbol, most before a certain date don’t do HD. I thought I was being careful and got distracted and got what I thought I wanted but a different manufacturing year and it had no HD. And that in/out/cable/satellite/whatever makes it even more complicated and sometimes differ from cable company to cable company.

I’m just saying ‘be careful’.

Exactly. The high-end DISH DVR allows you to connect an external USB2 HDD and use it for additional storage. And, the DVR can group shows by Name to help organize your saved programs. DISH is the bomb.

Yes but we haven’t figured out if there’s a way to sort the hard drive movies, it always lists everything in alpabetical order, you just have to scroll down to find what you want.

That would be nice too. But at least all my “Mythbusters” and “Storm Chasers” are grouped together.

Current DVRs make it difficult to do. It can be done relatively easy with ReplayTV DVRs. I’ve not done it, but a friend does. I don’t remember how involved it is, but my friend has harvested quite a few programs from his Replayer.

Yes. I have my Direct TV DVR connected to my DVD Recorder. I then can play what I have on the DVR and at the same time record it on my DVD recorder. I do it all the time.
