If this happened in England the guy would have been charged with having an unlicensed weapon ...happened to a retiree who found an old rusted shotgun, took it to the police station and they charged him ....

Transporting a firearm anywhere except directly to and from hunting or target practice, or directly to / from your residence to a business for purposes of repair or sale is a felony in New Jersey. You can lawfully possess handguns in NJ so I guess it is not as bad as England ... but close.
