Journey was a combination of Steve Perry and Neal Schon.

Neals guitar just can't do it without Perry's voice and visa versa.

Sad thing is, Roy worked himself to death after several family tragedies, heart attacks and bypass surgery.

He should still be with us at the age of 74 today.

I’m a huge Julio Iglesias fan, nice to see someone else on this board is also one of his fans. I also like Marty Robbins.

No, but neither have The Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd or Boston.

love most of your list but you can dump Vince Gill and Glen Campbell and add a couple of real country singers like Johnny Bush and Ray Price...

I'll take you well-made point and largely agree.

In 20/20 hindsight, my list was possibly biased toward the smooth, mellow side (with the notable exception of Ernest Tubb). That being said, it really was near criminal of me to not have the great Ray Price in the top ten. He could do both the authentic honky tonk vocal style and turn it around with elegant, velvet sound of "For the Good Times".

Ray and Roger Miller on Invitation to the Blues is simply sublime.

He holds a special place in my and my sister's heart. Dance With My Father was on radio just after we learned my dad had died, and I thought, lord Luther, don't you know it. He had his ups and downs and rough patches in his life, but I'll put him up there with the greats.

Beaversmom, here's one that I'd already mentioned: Luther Vandross for a great from the '80s.
