Tiny Tim - I think he was male....
But, since you opened the door, he ain't really pseudo opera, I don't know where he falls into, but Josh Groban has a great voice.
What would you include post 70’s? I grew up in the 80’s era so I have a lot of favourites from then.
Yeah, but as Burt Reynolds said in Cannonball Run .. Jim’s voice is OK, but his mouth moves in a weird way while singing .......
The pain and the beauty that came out of him when he sang, it’s haunting. Bittersweet.

Don’t forget Gene Pitney, Neil Sedaka, Elton John, and Johnny Mathis.

Well OK, but can you recite the lyrics to “Louie, Louie” from memory ???
I’m mulling that one. It ain’t MC Hammer, that’s for sure.
Elvis Presley stated: "Roy Orbison is the greatest singer in the world."
A few other tidbits about Orbison:
The Beatles were the opening act for Roy Orbison according to the book, Dark Star. Roy played for a junior high school football team known as the Wink (TX) Kittens (quite appropriate for FR, eh?). His nickname in high school was Facetus.
Now if you want an African American with an awesome voice, check out Larnelle Harris. He's christian music, but a great voice.
