Oh, now you're going to upset the opera purests.

But, since you opened the door, he ain't really pseudo opera, I don't know where he falls into, but Josh Groban has a great voice.

What would you include post 70’s? I grew up in the 80’s era so I have a lot of favourites from then.

Yeah, but as Burt Reynolds said in Cannonball Run .. Jim’s voice is OK, but his mouth moves in a weird way while singing .......

The pain and the beauty that came out of him when he sang, it’s haunting. Bittersweet.

I would have included Andrea Bocelli too, but decided to keep mine to just pop/rock.

Funny you should say that.
There are many 'critics' or should I say 'purists' that don't care for Bocelli Because they say he is More pop/rock than operatic! 8)

Ah man, Orbison is one of the best. I don’t know about range compared to Elvis, but Orbison had a very unique style.

Elvis Presley stated: "Roy Orbison is the greatest singer in the world."

A few other tidbits about Orbison:

The Beatles were the opening act for Roy Orbison according to the book, Dark Star. Roy played for a junior high school football team known as the Wink (TX) Kittens (quite appropriate for FR, eh?). His nickname in high school was Facetus.

I had a car door, that if you'd swing it open and closed to the beat of music, sounded like Aaron Neville.

Now if you want an African American with an awesome voice, check out Larnelle Harris. He's christian music, but a great voice.
