I think it's time to start talking about which federal agencies and programs get the spending cuts first. I vote cutting the EPA and IRS budgets as the top priorities. After those two agencies are basically killed off (aim high), I think every single federal agency needs to learn how to do more with less, much less. I only post this because I am curious as to what other agencies/programs fellow freepers would be keen to kill. I imagine our new representatives are as well.

I also wanted to say that Boehner makes me proud to be a buckeye. The man is awesome and represents everything that is American conservatism IMO. I sincerely hope he doesn’t go the way of Newt.

Exactly the right start. The TEA Party (Taxed Enough Already) made it perfectly clear what they want. Boehner needs to make a minimum standard of spending cuts a prerequisite for GOP votes on any proposal, and for any bill that comes to the floor or comes out of the conference committee, and that standard should be serious and not just symbolic. We can address other issues later, perhaps only after 2012, but the budget is an emergency.

My personal starting point would be with the EPA. Obama plans to use them to press forward with his agenda and the house can weaken them considerably.

I say immediately cut NPR and PBS just to get off to a good start in letting the “progressives” know that there is a new sheriff in town.

I am really glad to hear this. SPENDING cuts. Not dancing around the issue by talking about “getting rid of waste and fraud” as if that alone is enough. This issue needs to be addressed head on—Middle Class America needs to give up some government benes. I’m willing to do so as long as I’m convinced cuts are real and across the board.

Here are a couple of candidates:

Millennium Challenge Corporation

The MCC was created to provide international assistance to some of the poorest countries in the world. Since 2004, MCC has been creating partnerships with impoverished countries, but only with those countries “committed to good governance, economic freedom, and investments in their citizens.” The Millennium Challenge Corporations gives these countries large-scale grants for creating solutions to eradicate poverty. They also give smaller grants to countries that don’t quote meet these criteria but are “firmly committed to improving their policy performance.”

U.S. Board on Geographic Names

This obscure naming agency is responsible for deciding upon the names of the geographic highlights of our beautiful land. The federal agency was created in 1890 to “maintain uniform geographic name usage throughout the Federal Government.”

The Appalachian Regional Commission

The ARC approves funding for more than 400 projects annually throughout the 13-state Appalachian Region. If you take a look at their website - there must have been a few hundred million dollars of make work projects that smell like those in the last stimulus bill.

It only took me minutes to find these - imagine if a few forensic accountants were given this task and were paid 1% of the total saved?

Anything other then the DOD, Medicare, Medicaid or SSI budget is simply pissing into the wind.

Cutting EPA? Great, you have cut 1 percent of the budget.

You go after the meat. 60+ percent of our budget is in the 4 I have listed above.

Lets see if our newly elected Republican House has the balls to make cuts in those 4 areas

All government agencies and departments are rife with fraud and waste.

The purported reason for an agency existing is always secondary to it’s desire for preservation and expansion. Maybe it doesn’t start that way, but that’s the way it always ends up. For example, Homeland Security...a massive and wasteful bureaucratic mess.

It’s going to take big unflinching balls to make the cuts that need to be made. I hope we have sent people to D.C. who are up to the task.

Yes, spending cuts are #1; more important than tax cuts which just raise leading, which will destroy USA unless dramatically reduced, dare I say elminated. Borrowing to pay for everything is just a _bankers_game_!

Matter of fact, I haven't heard any mention of his 2-Billion $$$ trip at all--almost like it's a taboo subject, huh??? Shhhh....

I honestly don't think that there is any fat in the budget left to trim.

(Because there isn't any budget)

Job 1: Restore smoking regulations to Capitol as existed before pelousi.

Job 2: Consign Pelousi to the nether regions of the lowest circles of the bowels of the capitol complex.
