The Tea Party was a new, spontaneous force..it sprung up virtually overnight, and is not organized, but rather a loose amalgam of hundreds of local groups. These are led/dominated by activists, and in many cases it was these same activists who ran. Many of them make lousy candidates, and we saw that in O’Donnell, Angel, and a few others..But the so-called mainstream GOP candidates who lost to the in the primaries coudl have had their support had they been clearly willing to affirm allegiance to the TP principals. They came to the game a little late. Next time the TP will do much better..
The time has come to be politely but firmly constitutional, conservative and, dare I say it, FRUGAL in everything we do.
IF we clearly announce our overriding goal to be keeping America from spiraling into bankruptcy, then we can:
1) Always have a clear theme to our legislation
2) Allow ourselves to be the Party of NO to 0bama’s spending without seeming to be obstructionist (When you’re broke the answer to spending IS TO SAY NO!)
3) Build supporting legislation to cut spending, reduce taxes to grow jobs, kill 0bamacare to cut costs, etc.
4) Defund policies and even agencies that are costing businesses money and therefore costing Americans jobs.
5) Pursue many budgetary and legislative paths to reduce debt and deficit.
This theme of Saving America from Bankruptcy is exactly what the American people want.
I know I do.
This morning presents a big turnaround in policy for Obama. He will now move from blame Bush to blame congress.
Christie O’Donnell was a novice, not a disaster. And by winning the nomination, she humiliated the Republican “kingmaker” Karl Rove, who should have been a gentleman and ignored it, but instead decided to show conservatives what a pragmatist with dubious loyalty looks like.
I guess we all foolishly hoped that Rove was different than traitor David Gergen, ex-Bill Clinton advisor Dick “The Toesucker” Morris, or James “The Red Skull” Carville. Mercenaries all.
Yet, in sneering at her, and belittling her, cursing her, Rove has effectively ended his career as a political consultant for any conservative. Certainly he can still caucus with the RINOs, while he hungrily tries to ingratiate himself with Democrats that want to appear in some way “moderate”.
But any conservative who touches him in future should have fair warning that doing so will be seen by other conservatives as a lack of character, demonstrating more ambition than principles.
"So what if (candidate) has a dodgy background?? (Candidate) is as well qualified as Obama, and he's President!!"
Conservatives who are clearly serious thinkers and who have a serious resume, with no major baggage, WON.
Conservatives who did not clear those bars, LOST.
The LSM is always going to give conservatives those higher bars to clear. We need to accept that fact and work with it.
To make myself feel better, I keep in mind that when we lost WV to Manchin, we were not going to win the Senate this time.
Reid probably had to cheat to beat Angle....but at this time, he won. I feel a little better because Chucky Schumer would have replaced him. Hairy is really bad, but Schumer is a loud mouth mega creep.
We kicked butt on governor races and won the House. A lot of State legislatures went pubbie too.
Quite respectable evening when you think about it.
Think the Carpenters, “We Have Only Just Begun”
We had a good night in the senate, it just seems a little lackluster compared to the tremendous night in the house, governorships and state legislatures.
It’s like winning by 30 points and complaining because the point spread was set at 35.
Putting things in perspective:
(1) In 2012, 21 Dems (and +2 Lefty Independents) are running for re-election, only 10 Reps.
(2) In 2014, 20 Dems are running for re-election; only 13 Reps.
That means are odds for Senate takeover are quite high. That we picked up seats when we should have (2004) lost, shows how impressive this Senate win surely is.
