The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the stabbing death Ryan Lekosky, 23 from Metairie.
The stabbing occurred just after 3:30 Sunday morning at the intersection of Dauphine and Iberville Streets.
According to investigators, Lekosky and his wife were walking near the intersection of Dauphine and Iberville Streets, when an unknown male, drove along side of the couple and began yelling inappropriate comments at the Lekoskys wife.
A verbal argument took place between the suspect and Lekoskys wife; and, while Lekosky was trying to break up the argument, the suspect stabbed him multiple times. The suspect then got back into his vehicle and fled on Dauphine towards Canal Street.
When Eighth District officers arrived at the scene, they found Lekosky stabbed multiple times and Emergency Medical Technicians rushed him to the hospital where he died a short while later.
NOPD is now looking for an African-American male about 35-years-old, 57 in height, and weighing about 165 to 170 pounds. The suspect has a bald head, short beard, and was last seen wearing a light colored long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and alligator boots. The suspects vehicle is a dark colored SUV, possibly an older model, with a broken passenger rearview mirror.
If you have any information on this suspect you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
If you know anyone -- anyone at all who maybe was in the area, lives in the area, etc., who might be able to help in any way possible, please let me know. My husband knew this Marine well, and about the only thing we can do besides ask for prayers for his very young wife, is help look for witnesses, people who might have businesses in this area with security cameras, etc.
New Orleans is so messed up and dangerous. And that's just their police department, imo.
Would someone from LA please ping this to FReepers from your state?
Thanks in advance.
Bad place to be... been there and will never go back to NO or LA again!
Anyone going to Mexico of New Orleans takes their life in their hands. Nothing good happens at 3:30 am in ths morning and this is especially true in New Orleans. Very sad.
I’ve spent too much time in New Orleans. It’s a hard luck town and the cops are as likely to mug you as the inhabitants. It’s too bad they decided to rebuild the place.
That Marine was safer in a combat zone. RIP
Doesn’t matter what city you are in. Bad things tend to happen at 3 in the morning, especially in a dangerous city. TAKE A CAB!!
Awful part of town at any time of day or night .
So sad.
Ping
Hate crime? Of course, but it will never be mentioned as such.
Prayers for this Marine and his loved ones.
New Orleans is Detroit with the potential for flooding.
I live 50 miles from “Nawlins” and haven’t been there in 40 years, don’t intend on going there and I carry and practice regularly. One of the first rules of self defense is to avoid obviously dangerous situations whenever possible. “Nawlins” is an obviously dangerous situation.
Shreveport too,,,
The party ain't worth the heartache,,,
Some of the blacks in this state will cut your throat
for a dollar or just lookin’ at them wrong,,,
Day or night your life will be in danger...
When something like this happened in places like San Diego or Norfolk we had what was known as ‘dungaree liberty’.
We would all head out the gate in working uniforms. We would break everything and everyone we came across.
I'm not saying it was right. I'm just saying it was an effective way of teaching respect.
I wholeheartedly agree with every single post up to this point. And his beloved wife, Marine family, his friends...everyone is thankful for the prayers and suggestions. The facts remain, however, that this Marine was *murdered* and if anyone can help us pinpoint the bastard who did this, we’d be helping our Marine Corps within our own country.
Believe me...I’m speaking from experience. No part of New Orleans is “safe.” My dh was pushed into a car outside a bar on a corner of Bourbon St. several years ago. He was taken for a “ride” with a bunch of very-dark-skinned males, robbed and pushed out of the car while it was moving. Believe me, we know the Lord pushed him out of that car which probably saved his life.
Every year the Marines celebrate their birthday with a Ball. Since it’s a large event and not an option to not attend, I’d love to see the Marines be permitted to carry a weapon just so they can defend themselves and at least clean up after cr@p like this. A year ago, my dh was at this very same Ball with our oldest daughter as his “date.” I worried non-stop while they were there. New Orleans was bad pre-Katrina, but it is a much more violent beast since that time. We were just there a month ago celebrating dh’s military retirement.
I would love to see the New Orleans Saints throw down some monetary support to help find the gutter slime who did this to this young couple. Anyone here know anyone at this NFL organization? Where the hell is Nagin, Landrieux, Carville, etc? New Orleans is a battle zone.
Please, if you have any thoughts about places to look, any contacts in New Orleans which might be able to assist us, no doubt this Marine’s civilian and military family would be forever grateful.
Thanks in advance to each and all of you for continued prayers and assistance.
I wholeheartedly support it.
Please ping this to your appropriate lists. I’m not even sure if I posted this in the best forum. Can any Moderator help me with this?
Thanks for Pinging this.
Here’s a bit more info on this Marine who took his Mom to his senior prom:

This is a case for Steven Segal-Lawman.Not to change the subject but I have watched his show down there in Jefferson Parish. His enforcement politics are unique, more LEO’s need to follow his example.
Ryan was a former Corpus Christie, TX resident. Hope the perp gets it in a painful way. RIP, and prayers for his wife.
sad
